1045.0. "Can't Enable Word Mail" by GVPROD::FITZGERALD () Wed Apr 30 1997 14:42

This is a variation on the question in two previous topics, but
different enough to warrant a new note.

I have a desktop system and a notebook. I have used the MS Office Setup
to enable Word Mail on the desktop system. I ran this from the local
CD-ROM drive which I originally used to install Office. I then enabled
it from the new menu option which appeared in Exchange when restarted.
    No problem.

On my notebook I was unable to enable Word Mail from the Office setup.
This is because Office INSISTS that you run Setup from the original
location used to install Office. This net location no longer exists.
When I run setup from the CD-ROM drive on the other machine, it
searches for the old net location and then stops with an error message.

I have searched the Registry for an "Office kit location" entry, but
can't find one. How can I choose a new location for the Office setup?

Hi Maurice,

I had the same problem caused by a change in name of the network location of
Office97, when I was trying to do an update. But I did get a message saying to start
the installation from a new location and it did go through. The only problem is that
it did a full install instead of an update. I don't know if this is not the case
with Office95. FWIW

For Office 95 Professional you need to edit the text file Off95pro.stf. This is
created in the Office directory tree on your hard disk by the original
installation, as a log file. Change two references to the original installation
path.

Could be a pattern here? Try looking for Off97STD.stf or Off97PRO.stf or *.stf
and guess?

Win95 is similar.

The solution proposed in .2 worked! Thanks.
