1030.0. "Managing Alpha from Intel ?" by nova05.vbo.dec.com::BERGER () Wed Apr 23 1997 18:26

I have Exchange V5 installed on an Alpha machine. I'd like to be able
to manage it (i.e. run the Admin program) from an Intel machine as
well, so I've installed the admin part on the Intel box, it connects
to the server just fine, but when I double-click the IMS Connector in
"Connections" I get:

Exchange 'SMTP' could not be loaded.
The extension for Microsoft Exchange Administrator's CPU has not been
installed in the site.

Where do I go from here ? I don't want to install the full-blown
Exchange Server on Intel (I can't anyway, it's a Workstation), and I
don't see how to install Intel bits by running the setup program on
the Alpha (I'd hate to do it with the FX!32 installer, I'd be afraid
to mess up everything).

Any idea ?

1030.1There's a solution in here somewhere...THEBAY::WIEGLEBLast day is May 2. Farewell!Wed Apr 23 1997 19:5610
    I'm sure Dave Yingling added extensive commentary in this conference
    about how to set of management of the IMC on an Alpha Exchange server
    from an Intel system. It involved much tweaking of the registry as I
    recall.

    I couldn't find the note off-hand, but you might want to try something
    like "Dir/auth=yingling *.*". Or, if Dave himself could be kind
    enought to provide a pointer... :^)

1030.2File-Version needednova05.vbo.dec.com::BERGERThu Apr 24 1997 14:5421
Great ! The note in question is 431.6. It does contain all the
instructions but one piece of information is missing because it's
about Exchange V4 and I'm running V5...

So would a kind soul with an Exchange Server V5 installed on Intel do
the following:

1/ Run c:\exchsrvr\bin\admin /r

2/ Go to Configuration->Add-ins, select "Extension for Internet Mail
Service for i386"

3/ Select "Raw Properties" in the "File" menu

4/ Select "File-Version" in the "Object attributes" listbox, look at
the value and post it here.

Thanks in advance !
	Vincent

PS: I've tried the V4 value but it doesn't work...
