1025.0. "Exchange/x400 --> Mailbus400/MRX/FAX problem" by JOBURG::BERETTA () Wed Apr 23 1997 13:48

    Hi,

    My customer TELKOM's X400 public service is experiencing some problems
    when receiving a mail from ms-exchange destined for their fax gateway.
    The route is as follows:

    ms-exchange ---> x400 ---> mailbus400 ---> mrx ---> fax gateway

    When the fax is addressed using the personal address book from within
    exchange everything works fine, but when the global address book is
    used to select the recipient the outgoing fax arrives without the
    recipients name in the TO: field.

    My customer, Telkom's client, Old Mutual, who are being adversely
    affected by this problem logged a call with Microsoft in the UK and
    below is the transcript:

    Old Mutual: "If it is Telkom that is the problem, how come it works
    from an Exchange PAB and not and Exchange GAL entry when we are sending
    to the same system at Telkom?"

    Microsoft UK: "when using the PAB you are using a one-off which does
    not contain an Exchange distinguished name. When using the GAL you are
    using a custom recipient that contains an Exchange DN (distinguished
    name). It seems that when the DN information is added (legitimately)
    that the service provider, once it converts the message from X400 to
    FAX, cannot handle this DN info and consequently omits the "TO:" line."

    Old Mutual: "How come it works from PAB and GAL on MSMAIL?"

    Microsoft UK: "The GAL/PAB structure within MSMAIL is completely
    different to the way Exchange holds this information. Again the DN is
    not used here in these messages, hence they work."

    Can anybody shed some light on this for us??

    Peter.
