Hi all,
Just a question about Microsoft Exchange Server V4.0 service packs:
In a WAN environment, in wich each LAN there are a site (one single
server), how much do you recommend to install the same service pack
level in each server ?
In other words, if two sites have different service packs of the
product, will this cause any kind of explicit malfunction ?
Thank you all
Jordi Bosch, Barcelona MCS Team.

The general rule is only install a service pack if it fixes a problem you are currently experiencing. Occasionally there might be a hot fix that is best applied to all servers playing a specific role or in extreme cases all servers to fix a bug in, say, the MTA but I dont think we have run into a situation yet where we had to get all servers to the same SP in a hurry. In the past there has been an SP that modified the schema or updated the store contents so in these cases it might be advisable to plan the upgrade across all servers but each SP seems to be slightly different. Even V5 which is a major schema and store upgrade can tolerate skew within and between sites up to a point. | |||||
