931.0. "Unable to send Exchange Mail to ALL-IN-1 User" by CSC32::D_JANSEN (Dave Jansen) Wed Mar 12 1997 22:30

I am attempting to send Exchange Mail to an ALL-IN-1 mail account.

The A1 mail account is Joseph T McFadden@KYO

I have a reference sheet that indicates to send mail from Exchange
to ALL-IN-1, TeamLinks, or DEC Mailworks the syntax is as follows:

                    [email protected]

There are two Joseph McFadden's at KYO. One with middle initial "R",
the other with middle initial "T".

    I have tried the following:

                    [email protected]
                    [email protected]
                    [email protected]

I always get the following error message back from Exchange:

Report on your message to: /U=TRY JOSEPH R OR JOSEPH T
    MCFADDEN/@mts.dec.com
Reason: Unable to transfer; message formatting problem (1)
    Diagnostic: Unrecognized recipient name (0)
    Extension-id: 1

So, my question is how do I get Exchange to recognize the recipient?

    Thanks,

    Dave Jansen, DTN 592-4559

This doesn't solve your coding of his mts address, but MAPI ELF returns only
his internet address: [email protected]

That address is for Joseph R McFadden at KYO and I'm trying to read
    Joseph T McFadden at KYO!

    Thanks though,

    RE: .3 correction

Actually the address you gave won't work because of the spaces.

    In ELF:

    J T Mcfadden
Given Name: Joseph, J T Initials: JTM Surname: Mcfadden
        Site: KYO DTN: 323-4495, 328-3483
        Search GivenName: Joseph T, Joseph, J T
Search Surname: Mcfadden Mail Stop: KYO01 Country Code: US
        Preferred Mailbox: MRAddress
        Internet Address: [email protected]
        MR Address: JT McFadden@KYO

So the answer is: "[email protected]"

Sending to [email protected] didn't work either!

Received the following error message back from Exchange

Report on your message to: /U=JT.MCFADDEN/@mts.dec.com
Reason: Unable to transfer; message formatting problem (1)
    Diagnostic: Unrecognized recipient name (0)
    Extension-id: 1

Sounds like it's time to use the old standby - call them and have them
send you a mail message. You can then use their return address as
correct. If it is not, there is a confguration problem between you and
them, which is not unheard of.

Please try sending to:
        [email protected]
again.

That is the correct syntax for the MTS address
	Joseph T McFadden@KYO

I just sent a test message and it was successfully
delivered to his ALL-IN-1 account.

N.B. regarding the suggestion to have him mail
you and use his return address - that will work but
may be a more complicated address (it will include
his actual ALL-IN-1 username, which may well be
different than his MTS @Site name and his ALL-IN-1
mailbox. You should always be able to substitute
"." for space when creating an mts.dec.com address
