It's not uncommon to have the site addressing properties on an Exchange server configured so that they create addresses for MS Mail, SMTP, and X.400 values when you create an Exchange account. However, when you create custom external recipients from a load file, Exchange automatically sets values for these properties even if the E-mail Addresses is absent from the import file. If you include the E-mail Addresses property in the import file, but leave out any of the values, say the SMTP value, Exchange creates this from the Site Addressing defaults anyway. I want to create custom external recipients with values only for the MS Mail and X.400 items of the E-mail Addresses multi-valued property. I've tried various incantations of what should work, but to no avail. I've tried to just omit the value, to include it but with no data (which produces strange results). The Microsoft documentation clearly illustrates that to delete a value you merely click on the delete button, but this hardly works for bulk imports!! Thanks in advance Kieran

I tried to solve a similar problem a few weeks back with no luck. (I had wanted to disable the creation of an X400 address). I ended up having to create a dummy email address, because the automatically created address might have conflicted with a real address I wanted to use later. Let us know if you find an answer. It doesn't make sense for custom recipients to have automatically generated addresses, if you ask me. Regards, Warren | |||||
890.2 | Automatic creation of email addresses can now be disabled | GOBUCS::COOLEY | Megan and Michelle's Daddy | Wed Apr 02 1997 19:22 | 8 |
It looks like in Exchange 5.0, the problem of Exchange automatically creating e-mail addresses on a directory Import has been addressed. There now exist checkboxes under the site addressing tab which allow you to disable creation of e-mail addresses for X400, MS, SMTP, and/or CCMAIL. Regards, Warren |
