885.0. "Generated Email addresses and directory syn." by UTRTSC::SMEETS (Workgroup support) Tue Feb 18 1997 10:47

Hi,

A customer just called me with the following question/problem.

This customer (Oc) has several exchange servers in serveral countries connected
with the X400 connector.

In the exchange server in the headquarter (Netherlands) they've also installed
the MS-MAIL connector which communicates with MS-MAIL postoffices in Belgium and
the UK.

The customer also uses directory synchronization with the MS-MAIL postoffices
but the MS-MAIL users are not stored in a separate (remote) recipients container

The customer has noticed that after a directory synchronization all "imported"
MS-MAIL users have received a SMTP address like [email protected], which after my
opinion is the correct behaviour because during the import the users inherit
the addresses as specified in site-addressing.

These generated addresses aren't correct. Someone from the belgium postoffice
should receive the SMTP address [email protected]. The same applies to the UK users.

To make a long story short. The customer would like to change the behaviour of
the generation of the Email addresses during the import, i.e. perform some check
like

case
  belgium MS-MAIL user: SMTP-address = [email protected]
  UK MS-MAIL user : SMTP-address = [email protected]
endcase

Is this possible ?

Thanks for any input,

Martin

I don't know of any way to do that during the synchonization, but if
the users can be identifed easily you could export them into a .csv
file, modify their SMTP addresses and the import them back.
