866.0. "Personal folders use non-standard ACL ?" by GVPROD::MSTEINER () Thu Feb 06 1997 09:35

We have a strange problem with Exchange and personal folder on NT servers.

Most of our Exchange users have created personal folders on the office server,
which is an NT server 3.51 (sp5). Initially, we set the protection on the
user's directory to 'User' - Full control, Support - Full control. Then, the
user creates a personal folder somwehere in this directory, and works with
exchange, moving documents from and to the personal folder. At that time,
the ACE on the personal folder is still has it should be.

All work fine until he suddently gets a "no access" to that folder !

Checking the ACL on the personal folder shows that "The security information
on J:\Users\Muller\Exchange\mailbox.pst are not standard and cannot be
displayed. Do you want to overwrite the current security information ?".
Checking further shows that all the files in the directory J:\Users\Muller
have had their ACL changed !

Has anyone seen this problem ? Would anyone know why Exchange does need to
overwrite the current ACL ?

Michel.

866.1Recover done?SWETSC::WESTERBACKPanta reiThu Feb 06 1997 14:1615
    This happens when doing a restore of e.g a PST file. I have confirmed
    that the protection is OK before (Share operator and the user have full
    permission), but after restore I get this "not standard" message on all
    files in that users directory tree, and have to manually reset it.

    I have tested this with both Seagate Backup Exec, and NSR backups, and
    the same thing happens. On another system, where all files allow
    Everyone full access the permission is not changed.

    Seems more like an NT problem than Exchange? Haven't found anything
    likely in Comet...

866.2No recover in our caseGVPROD::MSTEINERThu Feb 06 1997 14:437
    In our case, we haven't done any recover. We're trying to find out what
    exactly has to be done in Exchange to reproduce the problem, but
    it's not easy, everything work fine during sometimes and suddently
    do not work anymore... (already 3 times today, at each time we had to
    set again the ACL on all the user's files).

866.3Quota exceeded is the cause !GVPROD::MSTEINERFri Feb 14 1997 07:265
    We use QuotaManager, and have discovered that the problem I described
    in .0 is due to a diskquota exceeded ! In reality, the ACL is not
    corrupted. Raising the quota limit is enough to remove the problem.
