1411.0. "Technical Help on Monitors required!!" by DISCO::HOBBINS_P () Tue Jul 12 1994 06:26

Hi All,

	I have a VR260 mono monitor and I would love to be able to connect it
	to my 520STE. I need to be able to get access to the HIRES capabilities
	to be able to run CUBASE.

	I bought an ATARI monitor plug and made a connection to a BNC plug for
	the VR260.

	I used PIN 2 (atari composite) for the centre connection on the BNC plug
	and I have connected PIN 13 (atari ground) to the outer case of the BNC
	plug.

	There appears to be some very faint picture on the screen but it is
	almost invisible and it would appear that there is more than one image
	being displayed ( ie the image seems to be repeated across the screen).

	I have tried the monitor on a VMS system running windows and everything
	works perfectly with the screen.

	If there are any GURUs left within this company, my keyboard and I would
	be eternally grateful for any help.

A frustrated (Low Res) MIDI user,

Paul.

1411.1Needs 35.7kHz horizontal frequency...FAILTE::ROBSONBTue Jul 12 1994 11:0519

        I once tried this too, with the same results, and found that
    it would not work because the Atari mono output is approx. 35.7kHz
    horizontal frequency, but the VR260 is substantially different
    (70kHz (?)). I tried adjusting the frequency of the VR260, but
    most types of monitor use the horizontal frequency in generating
    EHT to the tube, so believing this to be potentially dangerous
    experiment, I didn't pursue it much further, as adjustment did
    not improve matters.

    	Perhaps an alternative solution, if an Atari mono monitor is
    not available, would be to acquire an SVGA or multisync monitor
    capable of running at 35.7kHz horizontal and 71Hz vertical,and
    wire the cable accordingly.
