1405.0. "Monitor Resolution Problem" by JURA::HERMITAGE () Fri May 13 1994 11:12

Hi,
A friend of mine (no its not one of those clinical type questions) is having a
problem with the resolution of her monitor. Now, shes a complete novice and I
cant even claim to have that much knowlege, so its the blind leading the blind.

Here is the situation:

Hardware : Atari 1040
	   SC1435 Analogic RVB Colour Monitor (?)

Software : The usaul disk operating system (if indeed there is a usaul one)
	    CUBASE - which is supposed to be a Multitrack Sequencer (I wished
             she'd take up knitting)

The problem is that the its impossible to see the options in the window becuase
the resolution of the screen is too low - is it possible to change this using
some additional software? Or is there some additional hardware she can plug in,
a card perhaps? Or Is it necessary to buy another monitor ?

I (and she) would be most grateful for any clues, hints, pointers or just plain
advice.

Many thanks in advance

Mark H.

1405.1Mind you, I don't know anything about CUBASEMSBCS::WALLACE_RFri May 13 1994 15:2429
I beleive there is a section in the user manual for the Atari 1040 which
describes how to switch from LOW resolution (which is what she is in) to
MEDIUM reslotion (which is what she wants to be in).

Otherwise -

For the average user:
	Use the "Options" menu and "Set Preferences" sub-menu on the desktop
	to change the resolution to medium.

For the user who is realy unfamiliar with the 1040:
   After turning on the 1040, but before starting up CUBASE:
	Move the mouse up to the menu bar (top of the screen)
	Move the mouse over to the "Options" menu (the far right menu)
	Move the mouse down the menu to "Set preferences"
	Click the left mouse button
	You should now how have dialog box (a rectangle with options in it)
	Click the left mouse button in the little box which says "MEDIUM"
	Click the left mouse button on "OK".
	At this point the screen will go blank for a second and then the
	"desktop" will be displayed again with all of the Icons looking
	smaller (half as wide actualy).

	You can follow a simiar procedure to "Save Desktop" and then you won't
	have to change the resolution every time you turn on the 1040.

	Now you can start up CUBASE and all should be fine.

1405.2Cubase is a Hi-Res Mono ApplicationFAILTE::ROBSONBMon May 16 1994 07:0414

     I have used Cubase for quite a long time, and since it is
    a high resolution monochrome application, I don't think it
    will run on a medium or low resolution colour monitor - as
    detailed in the user manual, it requires a monochrome monitor.
     There are some hi-res emulators available which I understand
    some have found satisfactory for running some mono applications,
    'SEBRA' comes to mind as one in particular which seems to
    attract favourable comments (not sure if it's PD or Shareware),
    but IMHO a mono monitor would be required to make most use
    of Cubase.
