1390.0. "keyboard/mouse problem" by JUPITR::NROSS () Sun Jan 02 1994 05:44

    I've had an atari 520st for quite some time and the whole time I have
    owned it, it has been 'alergic' to it's mouse. When the mouse is
    unplugged, the keyboard works fine, but when it is plugged in the
    bottom row of keys starts to act up. When a key is pressed it give
    garbage. The problem is rectified by unplugging the mouse. I did bring
    it to a repair shop and they found nothing wrong (ie. didn't test it
    with the mouse plugged in: I didn't know the mouse caused the problem
    until after). I have checked the chips, and they all seemed to be
    seated properly, but I am gooing to check again. If anyone has any
    other suggestions, I would really apreaciate it.

    							Thanks,
    							Neil Ross

1390.1Check the mouse socket solder connections?FAILTE::ROBSONBWed Jan 05 1994 10:2211

    This can apparently sometimes happen if the connection between the
    mouse socket and the circuit board to which it is soldered are bad,
    and a popular fix is to resolder all the connections on the mouse
    socket on the solder side of the board. The connection is
    perhaps not the cause of your problem, but maybe worth a check?

    Hope this helps,
    Best Regards,
    Brian

    The mouse is handled by the keyboard processor and so any problems with
    the mouse itself or the port can cause spurious keyboard problems. I
    remember a note in here where someone blew their keyboard processor
    away by plugging an incompatible mouse into the mouse port!

    I recently talked witha friend and we found that the keyboard had been
    hacked, so that the ground wire had been removed. I could fix this but
    it would pobably be a pain. Is there anyone in the Worcester, mass area
    who has a spare Keyboard or an Old 520 St to canabalize for parts. If
    so, please let me know. Thanks.
