1381.0. "Calamus knowledge in USA/Canada" by EICMFG::SCHOENING (IEEE-488 /SBC Marketing Digital PCS Systemtechnik Munich) Thu Oct 07 1993 13:17

Hi All,

	I got a phone call from DMC owner of Calamus
	today and they asked me if someone in the US
	or Canada who knows their product can help
	them to get in contact with DEC.

	Reason is that I conviced them to port CALAMUS
	to ALPHA AXP NT. The port is nearly ready and they
	got a True colour board from SPEA today with an
	NT AXP driver. Tests looks like that CALAMUS NT
	runs about 30 to 50% faster on an ALPHA AXP than
	on an R4000 Olivetti PC.

	Our SW recruiting group gave them one Alpha PC
	for testing and developing, then they orderd two
	themselves. Beta releases where shown on house
	exibitions already and alot customers are im-
	pressed.
	Just for info, CALAMUS is a PrePress Software
	like Quark for MacIntosh, and made in the be-
	for ATARI ST/TT platforms, as the TT Series is
	going to d..., DMC decided to go with Olivetti
	and R4000 with NT, but you all know how some of
	these relationships work out.
	With DEC now they are very happy .

	So if you know somebody or you can help yourself
	pls write me a line.

	With binary regards

1381.1Calamus is one more reason to buy AXPUFHIS::BFALKENSTEINThu Oct 07 1993 13:2411

    Hi George,

    looks like you are really taking your job seriously ;-)
    Not bad if they have success in selling a great software
    with our Alphas (and we Atari-owners even can use our
    files from home on an Alpha?)

     Sounds like a great idea. I wonder if Steinberg Cubase Audio could also be
    ported to an Alpha platform ;-)

1381.4another NT subsystem? If they only knew...UFHIS::BFALKENSTEINFri Oct 08 1993 10:567

    maybe they just need the input at Microsoft to develop a
    Multi-TOS subsystem for NT ;-)

1381.5Calamus on ALPHA AXP NTEICMFG::SCHOENINGIEEE-488 /SBC Marketing Digital PCS Systemtechnik MunichTue Oct 12 1993 12:4520
Hi German Calamus User and ATARI Users,

	I got a phone call from DMC today, informing
	me that Calamus AXP is on the NT Demo CD as
	well as DMC shows Calamus AXP on the System
	in Munich next week on the DEC-Direct booth.
	It's only with 256 colours but it runs with
	better performance than expected. The SOFT_
	RIPPING run on an ALPHA AXP PC in seconds where
	a Hardware rip takes minutes, eg. an AXP
	just as a Rip in better in price/performance
	than a Hard_rip.

	Come and see the Calamus NT solution in Munich
	and give DMC a good feeling being with DEC.
