Note 1.0 Welcome to the Personal Computer MultiMedia Conference. No replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the PC (as in Personal Computer) multi-media
conference. The focus of this conference is on hands-on multi-media
development rather than sales/marketing issues, although I'll be
happy to answer these when I can. It's intended to act as a
discussion forum, a place for exchanging hints and tips,
exploring tools and techniques in MM.
The 'PC' stands for 'Personal Computer' rather than 'IBM clone'
or even 'MPC compliant IBM clone' so contributions about Macs,
Amigas, Atari STs, Atari Falcons, CDI systems, Tandy VIS, intelligent
toaster ovens and other small household appliances are welcome.
Workstation multimedia is rather arbitrarially excluded from
the above because I imagine that all the actual hands-on developers
within DEC would be working on MIPS or AXP and covered by the
existing MULTI_MEDIA and MMTRAIN (MediaImpact) conferences. If
I'm wrong, and there are people out there developing on Suns, SGIs
and HPs, they're certainly welcome - but this conference is not
intended to replace the above mentioned conferences as forums for
developers using DEC workstation products.
This conference is also not intended to replace the AUTHORING_TOOLS
conference as a support forum for IconAuthor developers, although
comparative questions (such as: how do I do <some IconAuthor thing>
in Authorware> are welcome.
Finally, this is not the conference for general display-related
conferences, such as 'How do I get my DECthingie to display in
1280 x 1024" - but questions that relate to multimedia peripherals
(including display adaptors) are welcome.
The conference will have to justify its disc space on this cluster
by providing something not provided by other PC-related conferences,
so the above rules will be enforced by the moderators - by write-locking
notes if necessary.
