1334.1 | DOS-Format Program | UFHIS::BFALKENSTEIN | | Wed Nov 25 1992 05:20 | 9 |

If you have TOS <1.4 MS-DOS won't read it. But there are programs to
format MS-DOS floppies with the Atari. Take a look in the several
archives that are on the net. Still I don't know which MS-DOS version
is able to read 3.5" with 360kB (V3.3 maybe...)

1334.3 | IBMFMT | RUTILE::BISHOP | What the HELL are you talking about man! | Thu Nov 26 1992 02:46 | 9 |
| There is a program called IBMFMT that may help you. It's a long
time since i used my Atari so i'm not sure if it's needed with
newer TOS'.
You run this program, it's formats the disks in IBM and ATARI
format. Be warned though, you don't get much space on it.

1334.4 | DOS compatable - TOS 1.6 & NeoDesk | KERNEL::BLAND | Norman Bland 833 3797 CSC, Basingstoke | Thu Nov 26 1992 03:23 | 6 |
| My STe runs TOS 1.62; TOS 1.6 claims to format DOS compatable. I also
use NeoDesk (which I normally use for formatting floppies), this also
formats DOS compatable. Disks that I have formatted on my ATARI (80
tracks/9 sectors), can be read on PC's here in the office.

1334.5 | try DCFORMAT | GIDDAY::HIRSHMAN | Fimus tauri vincere ingenium | Thu Nov 26 1992 17:52 | 10 |
| It's been a while, but - If you have a copy of Double Click's DCFORMAT
utility, I seem to recall that it allows you to rewrite the BPB/boot
block on an existing pre TOS 1.4 Atari floppy to make it compatible
with both TOS & MSDOS *without* clobbering the data on it. The only
caveat was that extended Atari formats (more than 9 sectors, 40/80
tracks) still won't be readable by some flavours of PC BIOS that don't
fully honour what the BPB on the floppy tells them.
Good luck!

1334.6 | Digital Research/Novell DR-DOS 6.0 can do it! | GIDDAY::HIRSHMAN | Fimus tauri vincere ingenium | Tue Dec 08 1992 23:59 | 8 |
| I've just discovered that DRI's (now Novell) DR-DOS 6.0 seems able to read any
Atari format - TOS 1.0 single and double sided, twisted and extended # of
sectors/tracks formats included! Then again, I suppose it's only natural that
the people who wrote GEM for the Atari would give their MSDOS-clone operating
system the ability to read Atari floppies.
I haven't tried running DR-DOS under PC Ditto et alia, but it works great on my
PC.
