1332.0. "FLYING FALCON (THE GAME)" by USCTR1::LICHTENSTEIN () Mon Nov 16 1992 08:04

Has anyone trying linking up 2 ST's via modem to fly falcon? Is 2400
baud too slow? I know that Flight Simulator 2 works fine (although
I am "fooling" the program into thinking it has 2 Hayes compatable
modems when in reality there is one at my end and a DEC Scholar
modem at the other. Works OK. Falcon doesn't like the combination OR
the software is just written poorly to work via phone lines.
The scholar needed some things changed BUT I am even willing to get
ANOTHER Hayes modem if I thought that would be the answer.

I recently picked up a second 1040ST for my sister-in-law but before
delivering it I am trying it out to make sure it is in good working
order ;-). I have connected a null modem cable between to two ST's
and had Falcon running at 19200 baud. Game play is great but there
are a coupled of bugs and it is finicky about starting up. This is
what I have figured out so far.

	1. Connect the modem cable
	2. Boot up both machines to the roster screen.
	3. Choose your pilot and name him.
	4. At the next screen choose your level and mission.
	5. Now at the weapon select screen you should
	   a. Under control select joystick (or whatever you want)
	   b. Choose any other options that you want sound, mig aces etc...
	   c. NOW enable the comm option ST to ST on both machines.
	   d Set the baud rate.
	6. Click on takeoff on both ST's and you should find yourself
already in flight in the middle of the map and flying directly
	   at each other.

I had a lot of problems if I enabled the comm port before I had
made all of my other selections. I have flown missions for 2 hour
durations but I have had both machines lock up on occasion and my
only recourse is a reboot. Also the cursor on the map that indicates
your position will sometimes go away. This has been a lot of fun and
I may have to pick up another ST to keep just for Falcon missions.
