1291.0. "Help with GDOS (and its interaction with EasyDraw and DTP)!" by ERASME::JBETTELS (Jrgen Bettels, GEO 821-4660) Thu Jun 04 1992 06:37

I am considering buying DTP and EasyDraw from a friend (who moves to PC)
and he let me try these packages out.

	That brought me my first encounter with GDOS!!

Here are all the problems I got into:

- I installed EasyDraw on my hard disk (Supra drive, self booting) and on
  booting I see the "...resident" message from GDOS and then the screen
  turns crazy: no background, menu bar missing, text displaced relative
  to boxes and icons...On suggestion of Pat Keane I re-made the AUTO folder
  to make sure GDOS is run first, same result.

- I then booted from the EasyDraw floppy and everything worked fine

- then I installed DTP on the hard disk specifying as printer EpsonFX/Panasonic
  1081 (I have a HP DeskJet 500 with an Epson FX cartridge). This time, the
  GDOS which came of the DTP floppy did not show the same effect as the one
  from the Easydraw floppy. BUT when I printed a document only the graphics,
  none of the text was printed. I re-installed DTP, same effect.

My Atari is a Mega4.

Any suggestions?

Jrgen.

1291.1Well, it CAN work...GANTRY::ALLBERYJimThu Jun 04 1992 21:1610
    This isn't much help, but...

    I use both EasyDraw and Timeworks DTP, and they seem to work together
    fine. I use G/plus+, a GDOS replacement that allows separate
    configuration files for each application. The applications are
    installed on a hard drive, but I boot from a floppy (no particular
    reason, I've just never got around to setting things up to
    boot from the hard drive).

1291.2GET G+PLUSPOWDML::STEILFri Jun 05 1992 00:037
    Get G+PLUS from Codehead software. The manual alone is worth it, as
    it explains how GDOS is supposed to work. I use G+PLUS for DTP, Degas,
    STALKER, Wordup, and other versions of DTP for other printers and
    monitors.

1291.3where can I get G+PLUS?ERASME::JBETTELSJrgen Bettels, GEO 821-4660Fri Jun 05 1992 06:274
Can someone post references to shops/mail order places where I can get
G+PLUS?

Thanks, Jrgen.

1291.5TurboST caused the problemERASME::JBETTELSJrgen Bettels, GEO 821-4660Sat Jun 06 1992 14:148
    Of course it had to be a problem with my environment! After carefully
    disinstalling anything that could possibly interfer it turned out that
    TURBOST was the culprit.

    Gil, thanks for the pointer in .-1. Sure I remember. Send me mail and
    let me know where you are these days. I come quite often to the US.
