1290.0. "Question about KNIFEST" by KERNEL::BLAND (Norman Bland 833 3797 CSC, Basingstoke) Wed Jun 03 1992 18:27

    Can anyone answer this question?

I am interested in purchasing KNIFEST. Will this enable me to work on
disks with other than the standard format i.e. 80 tracks & 9 sectors.
Many of disks are 80/10 or 82/10.

    Thanks in advance
    Norman

No idea what KNIFEST is, but any Atari works just fine with non
standard disks. Usually no problem with 82 sectors/10 tracks. Lots of
PD formatters out there that format often up to 86/15 and more (it just
depends on the capabilities of the controller chip (WD1772) and the
    drive mechanism.

    Did I misunderstand your question?

    Yes you mis-understood my question.

This is a commercial program available in the UK. It allows you to look
at and modify sectors on a floppy disk. So if you know what you are
doing, then you can repair corrupted disks.

I have a feeling that I read somewhere that it would only handle 80
track/9 sector disks but I could be dreaming.

I'd think the answer is almost certainly yes, but email HiSoft at
[email protected] for the authoritive answer.

The answer is definitely YES - Knife ST is an excellent disk editor and
can handle just about anything. I used it extensively to trouble shoot
my hard disk FAT corruption problem (see notes elsewhere in here!).
