1247.1 | Try PICFMT.DOC | DETOO::HEARN | Time will tell... | Mon Feb 24 1992 08:17 | 7 |
| Nick,
Try on DWEEZL::Atari$Dsk:PICFMT.DOC - it's Dave Baggetts' doc about
all the different formats and
their layout.

1247.2 | What is .GST pic format?? | STKSMA::HALL | Take care of your MIDI | Tue Sep 22 1992 04:22 | 9 |
| Last night I tried to import some graphics into First Word. I noticed
that the expected file extension was .GST. I havn't been able to find
this format in the documnet (.-1).
Could anyone explain this format and also help me with problem of
importing DEGAS pictures into First Word+ ??

1247.3 | This is what you do... | NEWOA::HAYES | Ian Hayes @NEW, (774) 6044 | Tue Sep 22 1992 08:25 | 30 |
| Getting a DEGAS picture into 1stword+ is a 3 step process. I'm
replaying this from memory so I apologise if I make an error.
1) You need to have your DEGAS picture in uncompressed format, i.e. a
.PI? file.
2) Next you run a program called DEGASNAP (I think) which should be on
your 1stword+ disk. This converts the DEGAS picture into .IMG
format.
3) Now you use the desk accessory SNAPSHOT (also on the 1stword+ disk)
to cut out the part of the picture you want. This creates a .IMG
file containing the picture you will include in your 1stword+ document.
4) Finally, within 1stword+, turn on the graphics mode and READ in your
.IMG file.
Once it's read in to the document, it's easy to move it around and
position it exactly where you want it.
A word of caution, 1stword+ only keeps a reference to the picture file
within the document. If you move the picture file, 1stword+ 'loses' it
so you'd have to READ it in again from the new location.
I think this is more or less correct. It's fully described in the
1stword+ manual - but that's assuming you have the manual - but of
course you have...it comes with the software when you buy it ;-)
Good luck,
Ian.

1247.4 | Procedure works OK but.. | STKSMA::HALL | Take care of your MIDI | Thu Sep 24 1992 09:08 | 14 |
| Ian,
Thanks for the info. Tried it yesterday, worked like a charm.
However, when I print the document (incl graphics) out of Word+
my printer (Cannon BJ10-e) spaces about 2 "graphic lines" between
each printline, it seems that the printer does make a 1/10 inch
linefeed instead of 1/12 or something like that. Do you think it
printer driver dependant. The BJ10-e is handled by the IBM Graphics
Printer driver, and all other output ( including DEGAS) is very smooth.
Any hints??

1247.5 | No smart answer I'm afraid | NEWOA::HAYES | Ian Hayes @NEW, (774) 6044 | Fri Sep 25 1992 10:39 | 19 |
| I haven't got an answer for that one. There are mysteries around the
1stword+ printer driver that I haven't sussed out.
On my printer (Star LC10), I have noticed that solid black graphic area
is not printed solid black - i.e. every pixel black. It seems that
1stword+ converts this into a black/white/black pattern for some
reason.
I've tried many variations in the printer config file but I cannot
eliminate this behaviour. You probably haven't tried fiddling with this
yet - it might be worth a try.
Not sure whether this is the same behaviour that you are referring to
but it all comes down to the printer driver in the end.
Any other experiences out there?
Good luck,
Ian.

1247.6 | Problem solved, thanks. | STKSMA::HALL | Take care of your MIDI | Tue Sep 29 1992 04:06 | 14 |
| IAN,
Thanks again for your input. I finally solved the problem by switching
the Canon to IBM mode. This seems like the obvious mode but ALL other
graphics ( Degas, Spredsheet and various PD's) have been printing
fine in the Canon BJ10 mode.
Now I can get a good letterhead on my letters.
