1244.1 | BARREL might help | GANTRY::ALLBERY | Jim | Mon Feb 17 1992 12:16 | 20 |
| I don't have any specific answers, but can at least point you towards
something that *might* help. There is a public domain program called
barrel that grabs the data going to the printer port and allows you
to re-direct it to a file. Once you have the data in a file, you
can tranfer it to your favorite VAX by KERMIT or some other transfer
utility. You can also transfer it to a VAXstation with a 3 1/2" floppy
by copying it to a IBM formatted diskette and using PCDISK on the VAX.
I don't know what printers Cubase supports, but I doubt it supports
DEC sixel printers, so a regular LN03 probably won't cut it. If
Cubase supports postscript, you can probably print the file on an
LN03R or LPS40. You may have problems with font selection and
stuff like that, however.
I'm sure there is a source for BARREL listed in the PD software
on ENET note.
Good luck.

Hmmm. Barrel... I'll have a look for it!. Thanks for the pointer.
Alas, Cubase can't print in postscript (as far as I know).
The LN06 is supposed to accept more types of data than Regis and
Sixel only. It's worth a shot.
Thanks again... Off to find Barrel! :)

Hello Bernd,
I write some music too.
I would like to save my scores on a disk and then print them on
SCRIP printers or else at work.
Did you find a solution .
I'm very interested with it.
Best Regards.
Patrick.

what format does Cubase produce? Is it *.GEM, or *.IMG, or any other
standard Atari graphics format? There are some good graphics converters
around which convert almost every format to e.g. TIFF. Another method
is (if it's IMG) to load it into Wordplus and then convert it to Post-
script (also a converter available in the net: WP2PS.PRG) or, if it is
GEM then use GEM2PS.PRG from the net.

| If the product doesn't supply this option, you could write a TSR which
hijacks the system routine responsible for printing, and copies each
byte away to a previously opened file. I wouldn't be surprised if
someone reading this notes file hasn't already written a hack like
this.

Look for a program named "BARREL". It does what you're looking for.
