| Hi,
There's a feature on the TT in this month's ST FORMAT or ST USER
magazine. I get both and I can't remember which one it was, but you can
always have a quick flick through in the newsagent's before buying.

Thanks for replying, but I've already read the article, as I'm already
a proud owner of a STE. What I 'm looking for is someone with hands on
experience of using one.

| If all goes according to play, I should have some experience with a TT
in another week, if you hang in there, I'll be writing a report on it
shortly after I get it.

| I use a TT030 with 8MB of Ram, a TTM194 19" Monitor with a Megafile60
and a Syquest 500, Scanner and HP-DeskJet since Atari comes out with
this machine (December 1991).
Most of the SW I used before on a Mega ST2 runs fine and without big
troubles on the TT.
The new Desktop is really helpfull, I like it.
With the SW NVDI (NewVDI) and TT it runs about 5-10 times faster then a
ST4. It's really graet.

| Well, it was a long week :-), but it's here. It's an interesting box.
I have the configuration with the TTM195, which is the 19" monochrome
display (1280x960). I'm using it now with Whack (which works GREAT!),
and have two 80x48 VT220 emulators open side by side, and there's still
more room to spare!
Compatibility problems so far:
- Phasar V3 makes a lot of screen update mistakes. (Does anyone
know if V4 works?) I might be able to fool it into thinking the
display is smaller and get it to work that way.
- PageStream works, but when I load the PSCRIPT or NEWPS
drivers, it goes into "no driver loaded" state. If I load the
driver and save it on another machine, it works fine. (Weird.)
- My own Midi applications crashes it. I don't know why yet.
- MSH (Mark Williams Shell) works as long as you don't hit
Control-C. ^C in MSH is an instant crash. I haven't DARED to
try CSD. I suspect I will probabally have to break down and
learn to use Atari's debugger (from the developer's kit), which
is probabally better anyway. The Mark Williams compiler and
linker seemed to do the right thing.
I was able to plug an RZ23 directly to the internal drive connectors.
It required jumper E4 to be inserted. (I got the TT with no hard drive.)
Mechanically, there is a cover of the disk bay that seems to be
designed to prevent you from adding your own drive inside. I ran the
wires outside and set the drive on top of the computer.
All FOUR of the serial ports are 9-pin. Presumably PC compatible. I had
to make my own modem cable. Three of the four have modem controls. The
last is data leads only.
Two of the serial port connectors are on a VME bulkhead - but they
aren't on a VME card, so you could probabally still use them with a VME
card installed if you let them dangle under it.
The LAN connector appears to be Localtalk compatible, and is described
in the book as RS422. That would make it a fifth serial port. (Or SIX
if you count Midi as a serial port.)
Touch-Up works great on the large screen.
The internal SCSI bus is exported to a 25-pin connector on the back.
(DB25, like theone on the back of Supra drives. I haven't checked yet
to see of they are pin compatible.)
The monitor connector is a high density 15-pin D-sub, like the STE's
analog joystick ports. This was a surprise to me - I had hoped to
connect my old color monitor to it as well as the TTM195. The signals
are all there. I may be able to make a switchbox. I have to be
somewhat careful - the pixels on the SM194 have a 3ns rise time.

| PHASAR V4.01 works fine with a Montierm Viking 2/91 1280X960 display.
It just uses the top left hand corner (but makes no screen update
mistakes).

| I can't find any FCC labels on it. The only mention of radio
interference is a statement in the manual - and it doesn't state if it
is A or B. It is, however, a new version in a plated box.
I did get it direct from Atari as a registered developer.
Anyone have any idea how I can upgrade Phasar, or should I just buy a
new copy?
