My 1040 seems to like to act up every few months... this time it's the video display. I get flickering on the (mono) monitor when the disk drive is in operation, manifested as black vertical lines. I tried reseating the display cable but no change. It's merely an annoyance at this point, but considering other "annoyances" have turned into breakdowns I'm a bit worried. I do have the RF shield removed, but haven't seen this problem before. Brian

I was doing some WP on the machine last night and noticed the problem went away after awhile, but then this morning it was back again. I keep my 1040 in the basement, which is colder than the rest of the house. It might be temperature related, i.e. as the machine warms up the problem stops. ?????????????? Brian | |||||

Interaction between the floppy drive motors and the display is usually related to the power supply. For example, when I replaced a power supply in one 1040 with an external one, having too "thin" a connection between the supply and the computer (too much impedance) would cause the display to collapse with each floppy seek. Beefing up the connection made the problem go away. |
