1210.0. "A long, sad tale..." by POBBLE::FULLER () Fri Nov 15 1991 12:14

    Can anyone help a beginner in the ATARI world?

    Do any of these applications/games files that I see banded around
    this conference (note-9) work for a 520STE?

    I copied a few 'arc' files and after realizing that I needed to
    un-arc them, didn't have much luck. I have seen files 'advertised'
    to do this, for example PKUNARC and LHARC but couldn't find them
    so I went for one called VMSSWEEP(?) which didn't work too well
    for me.

    Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. This is a christmas
    present for my son and although I havn't actually got around to
    wrapping it up yet (if ever) I would like to get as much to work
    on it as possible.

What exactly is the problem you are having? I couldn't tell if you can't unarc
files or if the files won't run when you do unarc them.

In either case, if you have not read Jeff Lomicka's introduction on file
transfers, I suggest you read it. Then if you still have problems give us a
little more detail on what is or is not happening (error messges etc...)

1210.2UNarchiving problem!POBBLE::FULLERSat Nov 16 1991 07:4018
    Thanks for your help (and offer of more help).

    I have (now) read the document in question and copied two files:
    arc.exe and zoo.exe and when I 'run' these files I get a nice
    little message on what I assume to be either parameters or qualifiers
    but when I try to add some of these, for example "e" for extract,
    I get error messages like 'ambiguous (or unrecognized) qualifier' or
    'too many paramters'.

    So I'd like to know how to use these 'unarchive' tools.

    [Sorry about confusion in '.0' you answered one of my questions which
     was 'will these files work on a 520', the other point I was trying to
     make is the current one of unarchiving.]

    Thanks

1210.3Hold the cavalry...POBBLE::FULLERSat Nov 16 1991 07:5111
    Having realized that I had more to read that I first thought (my print
    was party hidden by something known as a 'real job') I found the
    correct instructions on how to use these tools.

    And ... it seems to be working for me!

    Good reading, eh?

    Thanks again.
