1184.0. "Public Access ST at Westford Library" by PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ (Jeffrey A. Lomicka) Fri Oct 04 1991 12:18

The Westford JV Fletcher Public Library (50 Main St., Westford, MA) has
launched a "Public Use Computer Program". They have chosen the Atari
ST as the platform to offer for public access. I was called because
they are looking for volunteers to help in giving seminars to their
clients on how to use the equipment.

In the first month of availability, the library has logged over 100
hours of public access use of their two Atari ST systems. They have
available for public access at the library:

DTP system:
	- Mega 2 (soon to be upgraded to 4MB)
	- Migraph Hand Scanner & Touch-Up software
	- SLM605 laser printer
	- 30MB Hard Disk
	- Microsoft Write
	- Word Perfect
	- Wordflair
	- Calamus
	- Pagestream 2.1
	- Superbsae personal
	- LDW power

Second system:
	- 1040STe, with headphones
	- Multi-Sync color monitor
	- Deluxe Paint
	- Tracker TCB
	- Fun School 1, 2, & 3

The system is used mostly by people preparing resume's on the laser
printer. Response has been very good. They charge $1/hr for using the
facility, plus 10/page for the laser printer.

For those of you who own Atari and live in the Westford area, this is a
way to avoid buying your own laser printer! You can bring your floppy
to the library, and print your final copy there for a nominal fee. It
is also a place you can go to scan whatever artwork you mignt need to
have scanned.

The library chose Atari over PC and MAC's because:

- Low cost

- Low cost

- Low cost

- Consistent user interface across applications eliminates need for
extensive training of users. (PC failed this one).

- Works well

The guy's name at the library Daryl Eifert.
