1170.0. "RGB TO PAL or SECAM" by TDCIS6::SUCHAUD () Thu Sep 05 1991 06:31

    I have a 520STE and i would like to save pictures on my VCR,so
i think the best is to code RVB signals from the ATARI into PAL,or
SECAM .
    I know that i can by a GENLOC board but it's very expensive
(the same as the 520STE)...so i'm looking for drawing or schematics to make
 a RVB to PAL or SECAM transcodeur.
	Does anybody have drawing or know which chip can do that ( It's
probably a TDA.... )

    Thank you for your help

    Connect the lead out of the TV tuner, into the aerial socket of the
    video player, and tune it in like you do a TV!

    I've done this and it works quite well.

1170.2COLOR or B&W ?LYOIS2::FERRANDde CLERMONT.....(v)Fri Sep 27 1991 13:009
    Are your pictures saved with colours or black and white only ?

    The way i've done that, is to connect the RVB's and SYNC leads from ST to
    the video composite input of the scope through 4*470 ohms resistors.
    The result is nice, but black and white only.

1170.3Get an RF modulator.BRSTR1::PIGEONVAX Vobiscum...Wed Oct 02 1991 05:3051
    I have the feeling that the original question was misunderstood.
    As I understand, the base noter wants to record ST generated images
    on his VCR. You don't need a GENLOCK for this purpose. The GENLOCK
    is necessary if you want to mix ATARI and TV images because then
    you to synchronize the two sources first.

    re. 0

    If you have a 520STE (no M), I suppose then that your 520 has no
    TV modulator. Strange, I though that STE were always fitted with
    an RF modulator.

    If you had a modulator you could either use the RF signal to the
    VCR aerial input, or build a cable to connect the video composite
    signal directly to the VCR video input. (on monitor socket pin 2,
     if I remember correctly). When an ST has no modulator the video
    composite TV signal doesn't exist. It is usually replaced by a synchro
    composite signal.

    If you don't have an RF modualator you can certainly buy one from
    an ATARI shop. There are plenty of those (third party, but made for
    the ST on the market and they used to cost around 100$ in my country
    (Belgium).

    For my part, I have modified my 1040 STF into a STFM, by adding a
    genuine atari RF modulator, *BUT* if you do this, you also have to add
    the components for two or three circuits on the ST board.

    Specifically, the ATARI modulator contains the RF modulator and the
    color coder (PAL, SECAM, NTSC) wich is indeed a CI TDA... something.
    However some parts are missing. For instance the color subcarrier
    oscillator and some synchro circuits have to be rebuild on the board.
    this oscillator frequency is dependent on the color system. For PAL
    it is 4.43 MHz.

    Some components must also be removed. On most of ST without modulator,
    the Monitor socket pin 2 issues a synchro composite signal. After the
    modification it should issue the video composite signal. So the
    original synchro mixer must be removed (Just some diodes and
    transistor).

    Modifying the ST is not easy, you need electronics skills and the
    schematics. I'm not sure if this is possible on the STE, but I guess
    so. It ends up costing more than buying a separate RF modulator.

    Hope this help.

    They are. Read the 'e' as everything...
    modulator,

    I HAVE successfully recorded the activities on-screen onto a video tape
    by tuning into the modulator.
