I've bought a cheepo 2nd disk drive. It suffers from a problem where it sometimes doesn't recognise a disk change. I'm used to pressing the escape key at the desktop & the window 'refreshes' with the new files on the new disk. This sometimes doesn't happen with the new drive. I swap the disk, I press escape, the disk drive whirs & nothing on the screen changes. (I guess it's reading from some chache.) The worst thing is that if I don't realise it hasn't changed & double click on a file (which of course doesn't exist) it can crash the machine. Any suggestions ? I think I remember reading about a 'force media change' patch utility but I can't remember where. Pointers ? Many Thanks, Stuart P.

Thanks Ray, but 681 looked very hardware oriented & I was after a software patch that was installed at boot up time. My soldering is far to similar to by welding to do such small detail stuff. Maybe my mind is playing tricks, but I'm sure I read something somewhere. Stuart P.

NeoDESK always forces disk change when you hit Escape on a window.

Stuart, The "force media change" utility came from issue 20 of ST Format. Speaking of ST Format, it's a really good magazine, and I ought to subscribe to it, if I can! (It's 80 pounds!) Wojtek |
