1114.1 | Scanners are the same; it's the interface that's different | OPS5::HUTCHINSON | Hutch | Mon Apr 29 1991 10:50 | 15 |
| Bill,
Many of the hand scanner units are identical. The Migraph hand scanner (the
one they bundle with Touch-Up) is the same as the Mac's Lightning Scan and also
one brand for the PC (forget the name). The big difference, other than the
software, of course) is in how they connect to the computer. The Migraph unit
comes with an interface box that plugs into the cartridge port. The Mac job
plugs into the Mac's ADB port and I believe the PC unit has an external box that
connects the scanner to a serial port (although some have cards that you plug
into an expansion slot inside the pc). So while it's possible to use the same
scanner device for either machine, you'd have to build the appropriate interface
for each one plus obtain the appropriate software. That fell into the "too
hard" category for me. Good Luck!

| Thanks Hutch.
I had a hunch that this wasn't going to be easy. Looks like it's time
to start using the telephone and see what I come up with. If I find
anything that's useful I'll post it here.

1114.4 | scanner | WFOV12::LAFLEUR | | Mon Jul 27 1992 02:10 | 10 |
| I forgot all about this note.
Logitech (sp?) offers a gray scale scanner with interface boards for
both the ST and DOS the price for both (as of 10-91) was $450. I
decided to go strictly DOS because I was able to pick up a color
handscanner for the same price. I preferred hi-rez color on one rather
than 64 shade grayscale on two.

1114.5 | TIF to NEO? | SUBURB::JAMESH | Left Handed People are SUPER Natural | Fri Sep 25 1992 09:13 | 3 |
| Is there any way you can convert the PC pictures (.TIF I guess) to
something that will display on the ST, preferably .NEO.
