1109.0. "ATARI shops in London? ATARI shops in London " by STKHLM::ARENDI (Jaak Arendi TSC/VIA) Wed Apr 17 1991 10:45

	Hi!
	I'm going to London this summer and was wondering where the
	best Software/Hardware shops for ATARI are?

Hi,

	Well I guess it depends upon what you mean by best. Tottenham Court
Road is swarming with 'discount' (arguable!) electronics and computer shops
some of whom stock Atari hardware and software.

	Whenever I'm visiting London I try and walk around these places but
have been unable to find one that stocks memory upgrades for example. So
basic hardware and software is easily found, anything a little esoteric
is more difficult.

	Probably the best thing to do is get a U.K. magazine specialising
in Atari and look for London addresses.

	Regards,
	Nigel

P.S. Bon voyage (vacance?)

    For software, the Virgin Megastore right by the Tottenham Court Tube
    station is very good (at least it was last time I went there).
1109.3skyrocketing prices...GOONS::DOUGWhen half-gods go\The gods arriveTue Apr 23 1991 10:2514
    unless you're coming from very remote parts indeed, prices in london
    aren't going to be any better than the local shop up the street.

    availability, though, is a different story. most games (and some
    serious stuff) can be found, as mentioned, at virgin. also further up
    the road, a few hundred yards before the goodge street underground is
    silica systems. i've bought some things there. again, prices are
    high.

    i once had one of the tottenham court road shops try to tell me the
    right price for mark williams' c was 200! and next door it was 120
    and mail order it was 80, i think.

1109.4Interest? ->Synthesizer editors!STKHLM::ARENDIJaak Arendi TSC/VIATue Apr 30 1991 15:467
    I'm most interested in synth editors, prefferably(?) to Roland
    U110/U220 and Yamaha TG55 synth's. Maybe this more likely to be found
    	in the music shops?

1109.5Music shops & specialistsCHEFS::BAINAlex Bain @REOFri May 10 1991 14:0713
    Most of the music software I have bought comes from specialist
    distributors in the UK via mail order. The most popular music
    packages are also sold by music shops, and it's here you will get the
    best discounts IMO. In the SE, try Soho Soundhouse in London, and ABC
    music (Branches in London, Oxford & Addlestone.)

    The two mags the specialist advertise in are Sound on Sound, and Music
    Technology.

    I suggest you post an enquiry in COMMUSIC - There are a lot of UK based
    people who read that notesfile and who might be able to help.
