Well, Moniterm was having a sale - their 19" 1280 x 960 monochrome monitor with controller card for a MEGA ST for $995. So I bought one. It works great with Calamus, which is why I got it. Neodesk 3.0 also uses the full size of the screen when doing file displays. But everything else I have just sits in a small corner, with 80% of the surface area of the screen unused. Does anybody know of any other software that works with oversized monochrome monitors? Gil

Hi ARABESQUE is one of the best graphic-program where I see. It runs on every Atari with monochrome monitor. I have this program since about 2 years and run it now on a Atari TT/8Mbyte with a 19" monochrome monitor (TTM194). In combination with Calamus it's great. Nik

Whack should work. If not I'll fix it. Let me know.

OK, if any of you out there buy a Moniterm Viking 2/91 monitor (now on sale for $995 with a controller card for the Mega ST), you will need to know these tidbits: 1. The monitor driver only partially works if it runs after GDOS or G+PLUS in your AUTO folder. MAKE SURE BIGMONTR.PRG is ahead of either GDOS or G+PLUS. 2. You must have TOS 1.4 installed. The two patches to TOS 1.4 that are widely distributed should be in the AUTO folder first. 3. The monitor driver includes a mouse accelerator. If you like it, and use NEODESK, place NEODESK in your AUTO folder AFTER BIGMONTR. If you don't like it, place NEODESK first and the mouse will run at normal speed (of course, you need a mouse pad as big as a desk blotter!) I haven't done extensive testing, but it looks to me like NEODESK 3.0 runs flawlessly with the new monitor, as does CALAMUS and TIMEWORKS PUBLSIHER. But many other things have problems. TIMEWORKS PARTNER hangs up the machine. TIMEWORKS WORD WRITER works OK if the working window isn't longer than about 8 inches. PC/InterComm produces two very wide images on the screen that are barely readable. PHASAR runs fine, as does dbMan V, but neither can utilize more than a corner of the screen. Gil
1098.4 | WHACK RUNS FINE ON MONITERM | POWDML::STEIL | Sat Mar 30 1991 13:20 | 14
Add WHACK to the list of software that runs flawlessly on the Moniterm large screen monitor. Two 70 line screens for different VMS sessions can sit side by side. I just read a long piece of mail, while composing my response in the second window. I'm really happy about this, as working on the VAX from home is probably the application I do more than any other. Thanks to Jeff for sticking to the rules when he wrote WHACK! Gil

Note that I can't confortably do that on my VAXstation! Two 70 line terminal emulators SIDE BY SIDE! WOW. I wish I could afford a Mega STE/Moniterm combination for home use - that would be fantastic! |
