COVINA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 1991 MAR 18 (NB) -- Quill Publishing,
the Californian publishers of ST Journal Magazine, has announced
plans to replace the magazine with Atari User, which the
publisher claims will be the first and only free Atari-specific
computer magazine.
Atari User magazine will, the company said, be distributed free
of charge through Atari dealers, computer stores and computer
software outlets. Although the magazine is published free of
charge, outlets will have the option to charge a dollar an issue.
Preferred subscriptions to the 12 issues a year publication will
cost $12.00.
Announcing the magazine, Quill said that Atari User will cover
the entire Atari product range, including the ST, STe, TT, Mega
ST and STe series, Portfolio and Lynx computers. There will even
be coverage of the Atari 8-bit series of computers, despite the
fact that these machines are obsolete, the company said.
Atari User's editor-in-chief is well-known computer journalist
who said that the magazine will focus on facts that will make it
easier to be an Atari User.
"Every month we will try to cut to the meat of what is happening,
what is available, what it can do for you, and how to get it. And
we'll do it fast, with less than two weeks between final edits
and distribution. Our concept and goal is to be your standard
monthly reference for all Atari interests - at a price Atari
Users can truly say is power without the price - free," he said.
The first issue (May, 1991) of Atari User is due for release in
the US on April 15. The first print run will be 30,000, according
to Quill.
Atari dealers and user groups are asked to contact Quill direct
if they want to stock Atari User. Single sample issues will be
available by mail from April 20 at $1.00.
