1091.1 | KXP1180, or try the upcoming NaVAUS swap meet | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeffrey A. Lomicka | Thu Mar 14 1991 10:52 | 7 |
| The most common cheap printer used on the ST is the Panasonic KXP1180.
The qyuality isn't great, but it's readable, the supplies are commonly
available, it's compatible with most ST software, and it's barely over
$100 new. (Toad computer says $179, but that seems too high to me.)
For better quality, get the KXP1124.
On March 26 NaVAUS is having a swap meet. You might find a printer there.

The other common printer is the Star series - the NX-1000 goes
for around $149 at most places.
I still use the NL-10 that I bought over 3-years ago for an Atari
130XE I had an use it on my ST.

1091.3 | I like my LQ-510 24 pin printer | ALLVAX::PETERS | Don Peters, CTC2-1/C14, 287-3153 | Fri Mar 15 1991 13:03 | 12 |
| I'm not sure what you have in mind when you say "reasonably priced".
But awhile ago I also was looking for a relatively low cost printer. I wanted
one of the newer 24 pin types, and based upon reviews, I eventually selected
the Epson LQ-510. I've been using it for about a year now, and am totally
happy with it. The cost is about $300 if you shop around.
Unfortunately, Epson printers don't seem to be sold in as many places as
Panasonic printers are, possibly due to the lower cost of the later. I've
never owned a Panasonic printer, so can't comment on them. I CAN say that
Epson has excellent reliability based upon 5 years of using an FX-85,
LQ-500, and now LQ-510.

1091.5 | Canon BJ10E | SUBURB::JAMESH | Left Handed People are SUPER Natural | Mon Apr 29 1991 09:15 | 10 |
| Has anyone used the Canon BJ10E bubblejet on their ST? I've seen the
output from a PC and it's supurb. For the price compared to a laser
there's no competition (280.00 compared to about 1000) and the
quality seems just as good. In fact I think there's more DPI (about
380) on the BJ10E than on our DEClasers (300). Also of course there's
just one ink cartridge to buy (20.00) as opposed to supplies kits,
maintenance kits etc. for the laser. There's an optional sheet feeder
and the printer is smaller than anything else I've seen for A4 sheets.
Comments?

| I also read good reports about this machine. However, the important
questions are: What about printer drivers for this beast ? Is it Epson
or something -compatible ?

Hi,
The Canon does NOT emulate anything useful!!!!!
There is ONE company in the UK, (the new firm who have re-introduced
Calligrapher, the document processing program), who have released two
G-DOS drivers for the Canon Bubblejet. One is for draft and the other
for high quality output. The review I saw said the quality was
excellent, but very SLOW.
On the other hand there is a new package of software for the HP deskjet
announced in this weeks ZNet!
Cheers
