1059.2 | It's in the START I recieved yesterday | STAR::PARKE | I'm a surgeon, NOT Jack the Ripper | Fri Mar 01 1991 09:43 | 13 |
| The new START issue has a blurb on it.
It will use the TT case, but unlike the TT will not have a direct SCSI
connector and will require the ATART oriented Host adapter. It will
be (according to the blurb) a 16MHz 68000 and have the other STE style
features with the TT Keyboard and a Local area net (AppleTalk (tm)) port
(with no software }8-)} ).
Probably will be 2MB with a 720K floppy
Price, unknown as yet.

1059.3 | Mega STE Blowouts On The Way? | RICKS::ROST | Electric music for mind and body | Wed May 20 1992 12:26 | 19 |
| For those who have been watching Mega STE prices starting to come down
(diskless 1 meg machines are now below $700 by mail, 50 meg disk is
about $300 extra), I heard some stuff from a dealer yesterday, which
may or may not be true, so take it with a grain of salt.
Apparently Atari is offering Megas at *huge* discounts to dealers.
This dealer told me that his cost for a Mega 2 with *both* mono and
color tubes and the 50 meg drive is under $1000. He says this is why
there are suddenly ads for 1224 monitors at well under $300, as they
are practically free to the dealer if he buys it with a Mega 2. Since
all Megas use the same case, dealers are stripping Mega 2s to make them
Mega 1s or adding RAM to make them Mega 4s.
The underlying reason (conjecture here): since the Falcon is supposedly
coming in the fall as a 1040 like machine with a 68030 in it, the Mega
STE wil be obsoleted and Atari US may be trying to unload inventory as
fast as they can before shipping Falcon.
