1033.0. "STf, STE or MEGA ST what to buy??????" by UTROP1::VDBOS () Mon Dec 10 1990 05:09
Hi,
After have read some notes on Atari 1040STf, 1040STE and the MEG 1, 2
and 4 I am confused.
Currently I have a 1040 STf, no mem upgrade or Hard disk.
I need the following information:
What are the differences between STf, STE and the MEG in relation to
speed, easy memory upgrades (CHEAP for that matter) and hardware
compatibility? E.g. I use CAbase 2.0 and I read that it won't work
properly on the STE.
I consider to upgrade the memory of my STf and buy a harddisk, would it
be better to sell the STf and buy a MEGA or STE together with the
memory upgrade and HD?
What about TOS version's? I don't know what version I have right now
but I suspect it won't be 1.4 or higher. What are the benefits of TOS
1.4 or TOS 1.6?
How about MS-DOS hardware emulators? Is it better to use a MEGA ST or
what?? E.g. If I want to mem-upgrade my STf, do MS-DOS emulation
connect hard disk, I suspect I need to buy another case to build all
this fancy hardware?
Please give me some advise on these isues.
Thanks for taking the time to give me advise.
Regards,
Peter
