Picswitch 7 indeed converts .MAC files to Degas, etc. If you press the right mouse button, you can scroll up and down the image, to select the screen you want to save. If you want to save the *whole* .MAC file, you should use MAC2IMG which, surprise surprise, converts the picture to GEM IMG format. This can then be edited with HyperPaint 1 or 2.
