990.1 | some help for Cadaver | HAN01::SCHOLZ | They called him 'The Brain' | Tue Nov 06 1990 03:41 | 21 |
|
Hi Jamie,
where do you know from that there is a dragon when you don't know
the combination of the buttoms??? Only the right combination will
let you enter the room where the dragon awaits you.
The first number of that combination can be obtained from the
prisoner in jail by giving him some food.
To free the soul of Carolus you have to drop the urn with his ash
on the Altar of Lord Carolus. As a reward you get a scroll with
a kill spell (I don't remember the exact name) with the power of
200. With that spell you can kill the dragon.
But look out, there is another problem after you have killed the
dragon: To progress to level 2 you must have the real Crown of the
King and not the worthless looking fake, which lies obviously in the
environs of the armoury (but there is the solution too)!!
good luck

| Thanks.
Actually I've got through level 1 now and am just on the verge of
solving level 2... level 2 is SO much harder... apparently there are
five levels in the game and the number of rooms per level ranges from
50 to 150! Wonder what the chances are of level five being a big one
?!!!
I love the number of puzzles in the game and some of the traps are
really inventive!
Just as well I've heard talk of a Cadaver II...
Cheers,
Jamie.

990.3 | H E L P ! | SIEVAX::JAMIE | Use me, Use me... Ooops! Excuse me! | Sun Nov 11 1990 14:19 | 11 |
| After many hours of slogging away at my joystick (ooo errr!) I'm
totally stuck!
Level 2 - I've got 2 of the gems for the gemlock but it appears to need
another (circular ?) one... anyone know how I get it ?
Cheers,
Jamie.

990.4 | | SIEVAX::JAMIE | Use me, Use me... Ooops! Excuse me! | Mon Nov 12 1990 04:12 | 4 |
| Oops! Not less than 3 hours after entering that note I realised how to
do it! What a pratt! How I missed that room I'll NEVER know ;-)
Some of the puzzles in level two are great fun!

990.6 | level 3 but not much help: | HPSRAD::JWILLIAMS | | Tue Nov 27 1990 13:11 | 19 |
| re .5:
I'm that far, but I'm stuck, too. Let me hide behind a form feed and
dump what I know on you:
The Stone ball loads into the wall and you fire it with the lever. You
can get out of the spider cage by eating the Boar head. I tried eating
the boar head in the room with the potion but it doesn't work.
I can get three keys. One is in one of the casks you smash with the
stone ball. One is under the bowl. The last one I've found is uncovered
when you destroy the spider. This is where I'm stuck. I can get in to
the room with the potion but I can't get out. If you insert the stone
ball into the hole in the wall that appears when you insert the key, it
appears in the room with the potion rolling on a ledge. I wonder if
this means anything . . .

990.7 | Getting through the kitchen | HPSRAD::JWILLIAMS | | Mon Dec 03 1990 11:22 | 14 |
| Finally figured it out:
1) Take hoghead.
2) Examine Cask hoghead was on and find meat. Eat meat to get a key.
3) Jump into bar cage and step on spider. Get key.
4) Eat hoghead to escape from cage.
5) Open strongbox ( with key from meat )
6) Take coin.
7) Open door with spider key.
8) Enter room ( locks behind you )
9) Examine Cask and find potion.
10) Insert coin in slot.
11) Leave.

The game gets harder and harder!!!

990.9 | I'm stuck again. | HPSRAD::JWILLIAMS | | Thu Dec 06 1990 11:38 | 9 |
| I'm in the diplomat's hall. This means I've gone through the treasurer's
office. I'm having trouble finding a key. I've opened the casket with a key
I found examining a shield. I've opened a chest with a spell I found.
I've opened all the doors on the first floor. There is this one door
that needs a key I can't find. It's at the top of the disappearing blocks.
Reading the book with the read language spell reveals that I can
"sacrifice" some objects, but I have no idea where they would go. Any clues?
John.

990.10 | | SIEVAX::JAMIE | Use me, Use me... Ooops! Excuse me! | Mon Dec 10 1990 09:12 | 10 |
| Hmmm... I got there last night too. There's a key on top of a gargoyles
head... did you see that one ?
I got out of the treasury with the powder without seeing all of the rooms.
I wonder if that's going to screw me up later!!!
Jamie.
|
990.11 | I know what that key is for. | HPSRAD::JWILLIAMS | | Mon Dec 10 1990 16:25 | 7 |
| That key opens up a strongbox. It's no big deal, really, and I don't think you
need it. Remember to examine the shield in the room that shoots stones. I went
through all the rooms in the treasury and didn't see anything that looked all
that important, mostly potions and keys to get further through the treasury,
and traps! If you can't find the lever I can help you. Beyond that, I'm stuck.
John.

990.12 | Convert a key | HAN01::SCHOLZ | They called him 'The Brain' | Fri Dec 14 1990 02:31 | 10 |
| Did you find the box with the sign of change on it?
With that box you can convert a gold key to an iron one, or an iron
key to a silver one, or a silver one to a gold one, or ... I don't
remember exactly what will be convertet to what. But with that trick
you open the door on the other side of the two gargoyles.
I have already reached level five, but its hard to remember every
solution.
Hope this helps
Joachim

990.13 | I've used that casket | HPSRAD::JWILLIAMS | | Fri Dec 14 1990 10:45 | 7 |
| I know the casket you're talking about. Where I'm stuck is after the door that's
opened with the lever. You have to climb a set of disappearing stairs and you
have to pull a lever top keep from falling through once you get up there.
There's a keyhole but I have not been able to find a key.
Thanks,
John.

990.14 | Useful buglet | PAPERS::RADBURN | One of the PC Robot Jox | Tue Jan 08 1991 09:26 | 39 |
| I have found what I consider to be quite a useful 'undocumented feature' of the
game.
On level 2 (pretty poor but I have only just started) if you go to the back
passage (ooer, sounds a bit rude) and open the chest - this is the one that
seems to be unreachable but doing the necessary pulling and retrieving the
appropriate key, everything 'falls' into place - you are rewarded with a
teleporter and a sack of gold.
Here follows the spoiler...........
If you continually close and open the chest, a bag of gold appears every time!!!
This is well useful to increase your level and gold count. I don't know if this
does you any favours in the long run, as gold only seems to be used for saving a
game - unless anyone knows any different..........
Level 3 here we come!
Gary.

990.15 | | SIEGEN::JAMIE | Use me, Use me... Ooops! Excuse me! | Tue Jan 08 1991 17:32 | 5 |
| yeah! I've seen that too! Also, try pulling the lever again once you've
got the bars down in the room where you pick up the book with the list
of captains...
Kablamm!!!

990.16 | The more refined solution to the kitchen.... | COMICS::CLARKE | | Thu Jan 24 1991 09:27 | 25 |
| All this talk earlier of jumping on spiders and eating boarheads in the kitchen
I thought that you may be interested in my more 'elegant' solution to this
problem.
Kill spider using massacre spell power 1 that you find, then use kindling from
the chest to push through the cage to retrieve the key. That boars head didn't
look very appetising!
Another useful tip for the more refined explorer is to cook the raw meat on the
oven to stop it fuzzing your stamina. (young PAPERS::KARADOC of a couple of
notes back told me that one.)
Their is a couple of us here at the Support Centre mad on this game. I am
currently in the treasurey looking for the white powder on level 3. This is
definitely the hardest part so far to keep your stamina up.
Regards
Aston_thinking_of_taking_a_fortnight_off_in_Castle_Wulfe
PS. I have noticed that if you give the king a good frisking in level 3 he gives
you the crown back. When you pick it up you get the doody-doody-doo bit of music
which usualy means a good thing. Is this something you need to do later, I only
ask because I'm a bit suspicious of the old geezer seeing as he was found guilty
of all those naughty things.

990.17 | Complete Solution? | RUTILE::BISHOP | | Thu Jan 24 1991 10:10 | 9 |
| There was (what they claim to be!) a complete solution to this in
ZERO magazine.
If anyone is interested, mail me, and i'll send you a copy...

990.18 | | SIEVAX::JAMIE | Having wrubble with your turds ? | Thu Jan 24 1991 10:12 | 9 |
| I'm now up to level 4 but I'm very short of stamina. There's lots of
things that cause you much harm there so I may have to go back a level
to try to pull through with a bit more stamina.
Did anyone try the disk on ZERO magazine this month ? It's got a
complete extra level for Cadaver that plays standalone. I only had a
quick play but it seems to be quite hard...
Wonder where it stands legally; could I upload this "demo" ?

990.19 | Not much time these days... | RUTILE::BISHOP | | Thu Jan 24 1991 11:16 | 10 |
| Jamie,
I haven't tried the disk yet, i havent even got it out of its cover!,
but Cadaver looks impressive from the quick snip i saw in the mag...
I'll get it out and have a look ;-)

Is this demo the same one that appeared on ST Format (or was it Action) a couple
of months back?
In the castle and running around banging your head against several walls in
desparation. I completed the demo one and thought it was so good that I would
buy the game. I didn't realise many a sleepless night would be had living in my
alter ego Karadoc. So far he has been awake for seven days monster bashing and
he doesn't need any sleep!
Gary - Still being sliced to ribbons on level 3 by a mad, invisible Ninja.

990.21 | | SIEVAX::JAMIE | Having wrubble with your turds ? | Mon Jan 28 1991 04:22 | 7 |
| Didn't see an earlier demo at all. This is a complete level and at the
start you have to create a staircase by cranking a lever up and down to
make the blocks move over a pit in another room.
If they can churn out levels that easily they must have developed some
kind of construction kit; maybe they'll release an editor with the
promised extra levels...
|
990.22 | Hit the nail on the head | PAPERS::RADBURN | "One of the PC Robot Jox" | Mon Jan 28 1991 09:54 | 17 |
| Sounds like a new level rather than the original demo.
Jamie, you are right. I have read that the 'Bitmaps' actually developed a new
language/compiler that allows you to build your own environments. I very much
doubt if they will release this (certainly not in the near future) as this will
ensure the success of Cadaver II, III etc.
They could tailor it to different scenarios as well simply by changing the
graphics. ie/ Space age adventure, prehistoric adventure or a quest for getting
the STE DMA controller to work with hard disk drives :-)
Hopefully, new levels are coming soon. 85% of level 3 done. Level 4 and 5 should
be easy!! For my next trick I shall feed the third world, get rid of
unemployment and have everyone paying no taxes.
Gary.

990.23 | A plea for a small hint | PAPERS::RADBURN | "One of the PC Robot Jox" | Wed Jan 30 1991 10:46 | 28 |
| Level 4 - what a female dog this level is!!!!
Has taken me quite a lot of grey matter to get as far as I have (20% or so) and
now I have a small plea for help. If you know the answer, please only answer the
following and no more. I have spent two nights on this and have even resorted
to eating the fingernail cheese (yuk) in desperation.
The question is this :-
There is a key covered in green gunk that I need to open the chest in the room.
How the **** do you pick up the key without getting severely poisoned each time?
I have tried everything (obviously not otherwise I wouldn't be getting poisoned
:-) and I just can't do it. I know I must as I progress quite far after that
until I dissolve in a small booo-bee-doo tune. There are no cure poisons and the
gods seem to be having a sabbatical from curing unwary adventurers.
Please help before my ST becomes small pieces on the opposite wall.
Karadoc - not quite the adventurer he thought he was.
