| I have one shareware color-on-a-mono package that works, although
somewhat slowly. Are you aware that you can plug a color monitor into
the back of the Stacy?

| Hi Jeff,
Yes I am aware that a colour monitor can be plugged into the stacy, but
portability being a key aim with the STacy, I was/am hoping that I
could get away from that option, at least for most of the time.

Yes, I uploaded it some time ago. It came off the front of a UK ST Mag many
moons ago. Who knows if it made the library mentioned in note 9. Look for
notes with me as an author.
> How useful is it ?
Depends on if you've got a colour TV/Monitor or not :-)
> is it very slow ?
Actually it seems pretty good, but I didn't push it too much.
> What are its limitations ?
The trouble is that some 'colours' seem to go invisable in 'mono'. Also, of
course, it takes memory & also other progs I've tried seem to 'bypass'
whatever mechanism the EMU uses to 'intercept' the 'colours', e.g. XEON II
goes completely invisable on a mono screen, (but is still playable ??).
However quite a bit of PD stuff seemed to work fine. It is quite
'configurable', and you can set it up so that 2 images appear on the mono
screen at once, side by side, each screen doing a different grey scale, so
that if the 'object' goes invisable in one grey scale, it can be seen on
the other.

mono system ?
Dunno
> Has anyone tries these on a stacy ?
Not me, I've never even seen one.

P.S. Jon, did you ever get that disk I sent you ? Did you ever try to send
back anything ?

| Jon, et al,
I just remembered I uploaded 2 emu's a while back to a machine that
no longer exists. I no longer have a copy on VAX, although I could
re-create it for you. The file I uploaded was GFA_EMUS.ARC. The colour
on a mono screen I was talking about in .-1 was in here.
Does anybody have a copy of that ARC file lying around ?

957.6 | Don't work for me | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeffrey A. Lomicka | Tue Sep 11 1990 13:08 | 2 |
| I tried GFA_COLOR.PRG on my UK model Stacy, and all it does is bomb.
It's a waste of disk space, as far as I'm concerned.
|
957.7 | Did you run it from \AUTO? | OLDTMR::WALLACE | | Tue Sep 11 1990 21:30 | 4 |
| I haven't tried this particular color emulator but the one I did try awhile
ago needed to be run from the auto folder or it would bomb.

957.8 | 4 bombs (unknown opcode) | BERN01::RUGGIERO | Markus Ruggiero, EIS/PS, Zrich/Switzerland | Wed Sep 12 1990 03:11 | 19 |
| It does not run on my MegaST2 either (TOS1.4 in ROM).
I tried running it from the desktop, booting the system with a disk that
contained only the .PRG in the /AUTO folder with always the same
effect.
I get 4 bombs and then the boot continous. The screen gets messy and at
the moment when the desktop should finally come up the system hangs.
One can see that the screenbits in the memory are not in synch with the
shifter. When running with a monitor loaded first the monitor tells me
that it is an 'unknown operand'. Disassembling the memory around the
fault pc shows garbage, mostly 00's with some isolated non-00 bytes.
I haven't had the time to investigate further...
Are there different versions?

| How about Startgem? I have had better success with that.
