I doubt it. The Atari monitor is equivlant to a CGA monitor and
is limited to 15.75 kHz horizontal and 60 Hz vertical
frequencies.

951.2 | How about with CGA? | ODIXIE::WARNER | So I might steal your diamonds... | Tue Oct 09 1990 15:05 | 12 |
| I'd like to revive this topic for a moment. I'm thinking about buying
a laptop (IBM PC-compatible) that has CGA output as well as the
built-in LCD display. I'd love to be able to plug it into my Atari
color monitor when it's at home.
Anybody heard of doing this successfully? Know of anyone who makes
cables/adapters?
Thanks,
Steve

951.3 | CGA - Atari & LAPtop - VR241 | BAHTAT::REID | | Thu Oct 11 1990 07:46 | 38 |
| I have a CGA monitor that I have been trying to connect to my Atari for
several days. The Monitor has a 9 Pin D Type with the following ledgend
1 GRND
2 RED'
3 RED
4 GREEN
5 BLUE
6 GREEN'
7 BLUE'
8 Horizontal Sync
9 Veritcal Sync
The Monitor is multi sync all I can get is a stable picture without
green - but yellow is present it is green and blue/green mixes that
don't work. ANY IDEAS please???
I also want to connect a CGA LAPtop to a standard VR241 Digital screen
so that I can have a large readable screen in the office. I have
produced a lead with 330ohm resistors in the sync leads before they are
joined. (See note on VR241) All is fine except I can't get it to stop
scrolling diagonal accross the screen
LAPtops outputs have the following ledgend
1 GRND
2 GRND
3 RED
4 GREEN
5 BLUE
6 Intensity
7 Reserved
8 Hsync
9 Vsync
The Monitor and the LAPtop work fine together even with the different
ledgends for the CGA output and input.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

951.4 | Youv'e got the resistors on the wrong system | YNOTME::WALLACE | | Thu Oct 11 1990 12:10 | 8 |
| The 330 ohm resistors are to adjust the Atari's output to a "standard" RGB
signal level. My guess is that you need to remove the resistors from your
LAPtop<->VR241 connection and put them in your ST<->CGA monitor connection.
For the ST<->CGA are you connecting all your returns (ie: RED', BLUE',
GREEN')?

951.5 | Not for signal level | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeffrey A. Lomicka | Thu Oct 11 1990 13:43 | 3 |
| The resistors are used to sort-of OR together the two sync signals into
the one sync signal needed by the monitor.

951.6 | Tried it everyway without success!! | BAHTAT::REID | | Fri Oct 12 1990 04:29 | 12 |
| I have tried with the returns connected and without there is no
difference.
The resistors are there to produce a single sync for the VR241.
I guess I could use the monitors the other way round but then I lose
Monochrome on the CGA monitor from Atari (The Monitor is Multisync)
Mono works but could be better!!
Thanks for trying to help!

951.7 | VR241 EXT sync | COL01::SELL | Alles dauert lnger, als man denkt | Fri Oct 12 1990 06:19 | 6 |
| Re: 951.3
I use my ST in the office with a VR241 and the two resistors and it
works well.
You have to switch to EXT (external sync) or you get scrolling diagonal
stripes across the screen.

951.8 | ST - VR241 is OK with me too! | BAHTAT::REID | | Fri Oct 12 1990 12:50 | 7 |
|
The ST works well to the VR241 it is the LAPtop that doesn't work with
the VR241 and the ST that doesn't work with the CGA multisync
Thanks for trying to help

| Re: .3
It looks like your CGA monitor is digital, not analog. The Atari
requires an analog color monitor. If it will handle analog, Look
way back in this conference for my article on connecting an NEC
Multisync. That may help. There may be a keyword pointing to it
as well, it has been a while.

951.10 | CGA is switchable | BAHTAT::REID | | Tue Oct 23 1990 06:54 | 5 |
| It was your note on the NEC multisync that gave me the Idea in the
first place. Yes my CGA is switchable between Digital and Analog

Been 4 years since anyone has posted in this one but..
Anyone know if this is still possible (yet?) ?
I want to hook up a SC1224 (1987 and still going strong) to any IBM
system/ with any card.
Any adaptors? Don't care what (CGA,EGA,Mono) as long as I can get
medium res......
Seems a waste to have a monitor sitting around, since the ST with it
is dead. (Still have a 1040STe system though.....)
