893.0. "WARHEAD" by JOCKEY::BURNM (Kerry Gentry my dear Watson) Mon Jun 11 1990 04:49

    Anyone out there playing WARHEAD yet?

    If so, any hints as to what to do on the CM-010 mission?
    (the one with the gravitationally wierd sun)

    Cheers

What is WARHEAD? Anything with a "gravitationally wierd sun" sounds
interesting!

    WARHEAD is the usual 'we are getting invaded by insect aliens, you
    have been chosen to destroy them' scenario.

    But.... the implementation and gameplay are BRILLIANT!(as are the
    graphics)

    The game starts out with several 'train the pilot' missions, which
    slowly change to real missions. I have only got to mission, er,
    um 6 or 7, out of 39. The controls in the 3D universe are somewhat
    similar to ELITE, but are ultra sensitive.
    The further one gets into the game, the more weapons are added,
    at the moment I have some rather splendid missiles, an escape podule,
    gun thingy, interstellar drive and info gathering probes. The game
    can be saved throughout, which is just as well - the packaging says
    that the full game lasts 30 hours!

    I bought the game at the Snetterton sunday market for the grand
    sum of 20.00.....a bargain.

    So, all I need for the moment is a course of action for when I am
    at the "gravitationally wierd sun".

    BTW the game was worth getting up at 04:30 this morning to play
    it.

    ps it's not a "gravitationally wierd sun" - it is a black hole!

    Still can't get any further into the game though.

    BTW the universe in this game appears to be VAST.

893.4Another failed black hole scoutCOMICS::ENTWISTLECrashed and burned ...Tue Jun 19 1990 15:588
    If it's any consolation I can't complete the black hole mission either.
    I have avoided being sucked into it simply by flying in the opposite
    direction at maximum blast but got ticked off by mission control for
    failing to complete the mission successfully. This is frustrating
    because its been a great game so far - a must for Elite fanatics.
    Anybody made any progress on this yet??

    Graeme
893.5Still no progressJOCKEY::BURNMKerry Gentry my dear WatsonWed Jun 20 1990 05:2917
    Well, I tried leaving the thing switched on all night (after
    going to the CH-010 mission and letting my ship fly around for
    a while) - still nothing! I've tried all sorts - flying directly
    at the black hole, trying to get away from it, trying to go round
    it, trying to stop still in space (which it wont let you do), I've
    even tried going back to the very beginning of the game and starting
    over again to see if I missed anything.

    All to no avail!

   ... so, cheats, hints and tips wouldn't go amiss in this part of
    the galaxy!

    Martin

    ps have you tried going to all the other locations - great fun after
    the frustration of CH-010!
893.6he heJOCKEY::BURNMKerry Gentry my dear WatsonMon Jul 02 1990 04:519
    Well, I've now got past CH-010!

    If anyone really wants to know how to progress in the game,
    let me know.

    ps any hints on the EARTH mission - Whatever I do, the
    er, thingey thing (!) keeps winning.
