836.0. "Atari Customer Service experience" by ACE::BREWER (John Brewer Component Engr. @ABO) Thu Apr 12 1990 21:25
Well, as I mentioned in an earlier note, my color monitor gave up
the ghost for the third time in three years (no smoke this time...
very anticlimatic!).
Having it had it serviced at an authorized Atari dealer both previous
times, once under warranty, and once at my expense, I was not at all
amused! (mostly because my wife was trying to finish a term paper
at the time of its most recent death)...
I wrote the Customer Satisfaction address in the back of the manual,
and explained that I though 3 failures (total DOA's) was not acceptable
performance, and I was not happy. This note was sent tp Atari lst
Monday.
Imagine my total suprise when Friday after work I find a letter from
Atari telling me to send my monitor back to Sunnyvale and they would
replace it with a NEW UNIT!
After all the horror stories I have read about Atari's general
contempt for customers, this is really nice... I will follow up
with information as to whether I ever see another monitor
again, or whether a shiny new 1224 arrives here soon.
too good to be true,
/john

I am happy to report that yesterday a shiny new 1224 was delivered
to my house. (this is a Gold Star unit), and it works nicely. Total
bill=$0.00.
Hats off to Atari Customer service!
Replacing a 2 year - old monitor for a disguntled customer is
not common for ANYONE these days!
