808.0. "How to Get ST to Talk to Network?" by JOCKEY::RAYERC () Wed Mar 28 1990 07:24

I'm planning to use my ST as a home terminal, and have the following
hardware:

STe + 2MB RAM; 32Mb Hard Disk; SM124 Mono Monitor

Also, a Lion Systems Developments Ltd V22bis Memo Modem. I know virtually
nothing about modems, nor whether this one works. But it operates at baud rates
of either 1200 or 2400.

I also have a copy of UNITERM.

Is the above adequate? Also, can anyone point me at, or provide me with,
a Noddy guide to uploading and downloading files over the network. I've read
most of the replies in this conference, but most comments seem to be referring
to an invisible manual (technical experience) which I don't have access to. I
have a copy of STRANSFER.EXE, but no documentation. What's the syntax to copy a
file called EXAMPLE.ARC?

Thanks in advance.

Read PRNSYS::DUA2:[LOMICKAJ.HOBBY.ST]XFERINTRO.TXT. I moved the Atari
stuff to DUA2 when DUA1 got full.

I wrote "Whack", the subject of topic 3 in this conference, and it does
have quite a following. The file transfers to/from VMS are very fast,
and the ability to open multiple sessions into multiple terminal
emulator windows is neccessary for my style of computing.

The "Whack/Stransf" combination is about 3 times faster than VMS
Kermit/Uniterm at transferring files.
