    Hi there.
    Question:
    Does anyone know, if the newest version of the KA9Q NOS is
    aviable for the ATARI?
    If so, where can i look for?
    Rolf :-)

804.1I have somethingPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeffrey A. LomickaFri Mar 23 1990 09:5210
I don't know if there is anything later than what I have, but I do run
internet between my two Atari's at home using some version of the KA9Q
package. The sources are PRNSYS::USER1:[LOMICKAJ]NET_SRC.ARC, but I
haven't been able to rebuld them myself. The binary that I use in
PRNSYS::USER2:[LOMICKAJ.HOBBY.ST]NETBIN.ZOO, sources NETSRC.ZOO (which
I think are the same as the aforementioned .ARC). The manual is in
NET.DOC, same directory.

If you (or anyone) ever figure out how to successfully rebuld this from
sources, please let me know. There are some changes I want to make.
804.2More infos...SUOSW4::SURAUFWed Mar 28 1990 03:5613
    Re: 804.1
    Hi Jeff,
    thank's for the information. We have one Guy here in Germany, who have
    done a lot of changes to the KA9Q Internet Package. His Name is
    Walter Doerr. His latest version is from december 1989.
    I think, his electronic mailstop is:
    	DECWRL::"hplabs!hpbbrd!db0sao!dg2kk"
    I'will figure out his exact mailstop, i'm not sure of the "dg2kk".

    For MS-DOS and UNIX based system exist an NOS dated feb 1990.
    I'will see that i can get the sources of it.

I believe the KA9Q package in my area is also December 1989.

804.4no privilege!SUOSW4::SURAUFWed Mar 28 1990 11:306
    hi Jeff,
    i got the message "no privileges or file protection" when i tried
    to copy net_src.arc from your area.
    Can you fix it?
    Rolf

804.6Also try CSCMAS::SYS$MSDOS:[KA9Q-TCP]PAULJ::HARRIMANbzzzzzzzTHWACK!hmmmmmmmFri Mar 30 1990 10:4610

	I have the KA9Q TCP/IP package running between my 386 and my 1040ST.
	I got the entire package from the CSCMAS:: library, which has various
	implementations for PCs, MACs, ST, I think AMIGAs, and various
	HP boxes as well. Plus all the sources.

	Pointers are in NAC::IBMPC, try DIR/TITLE=KA9Q.

804.7Not now, but soon? I hope!11481::HNELSONSat Mar 31 1990 07:334
    Where you been, Paul? CSCMAS is off the net due to security concerns
    about viruses. Topic 3646 in nac::ibmpc has the ugly details. Maon.

804.8Adding an ST to the internetPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeffrey A. LomickaSat Mar 31 1990 15:1254
I've mostly figured out how to connect the KA9Q stuff to an Ultrix
system. Before I left Friday evening I managed to get an Ultrix
"master" to communicate to an ST with SLIP, using a null modem cable in
my office. (I have yet to work out the details of using the modem and
allowing the ST to initiate the link.) With this set up, you can have
multiple TELNET sessions going, and transfer files with FTP. You can
also "finger", "ping", and "smtp", but these aren't quite as
interesting. Using a 9600 baud link, you get an FTP transfer rate of
about 600 bytes/sec. I haven't tried to tune any of the parameters
yet, either.

Some notes on getting this to work.

- SLIP comes with Ultrix on the "unsupported" tape. You have to install
the ULXBASE030 subset.

- Read /etc/sliphosts for directions on rebuilding your Kernal to
include SLIP support. Essentially you add the line "pseudodevice sl" to
your system specific configuration file, and rebuild. Don't forget to mv
your "vmunix" from the build area to the root, as I did. I can create a
"cookbook" for this step if you are uneasy about it.

- Add your ST to the /etc/hosts file as an internet system. You'll need
an address.

- Add your ST to /etc/sliphosts. Ignore the example in the file, it's
wrong.   My entry was:

stacy prnsy1 255.255.255.0 9600 /dev/tty00 hw

My ST system name was "stacy", the Ultrix system "prnsy1". The 255's
has something to do with routing, I got this value reading my ifconf
line in rc.local. 9600 is the baud rate, and /dev/tty00 is the line I
used to conncet it. "hw" means that there's no modem to dial out.

I then boot the ST and issue the command "/usr/new/slattach stacy" as superuser.

The ST's NET.RC file contains:
hostname stacy
attach asy AUX: 0 slip sl0 8192 576 9600
# Fill in your own IP address below
ip addr [16.?.?.?]
route add default sl0
ip ttl 16
tcp mss 216
tcp window 432
# log m:\tmp\net.log
start smtp
start ftp
start echo
start discard
start telnet
start finger

804.9IBMPC is a busy conferencePAULJ::HARRIMANbzzzzzzzTHWACK!hmmmmmmmMon Apr 02 1990 10:5211

	re: .-2

	Well, IBMPC is a busy conference and I got about 567 unread notes
	in it. You miss a week, it gets hard to catch up.

	CSCMAS:: is down again, eh? Oh well. Kind of like Vermont weather,
	if you don't have what you want, wait a minute (or a couple days) ;^)
