| I bought it two days ago, it's an excellent game.
I find that if you don't change the direction which you face when you
first go into hang glider mode and then don't touch the controls when
you take off, you will rise 3-400 feet without any problems. Try to
turn gradually as you will loose altitude making tight turns. Stay over
mountains and you should be ok.
The tricky bit comes when landing, I've only managed a smooth one once,
but the technique seems to be to loose height slowly until down to
about 10 feet and then pull back quickly on the mouse so that you
stall.
Have you come up with any good strategies yet ?
The first game I played, I lost within 12 hours, but on the latest I'm
into the second day, although with only 4 heat mines left. I'm trying
a "scorched earth" tactic by destroying all the factories, synth plants
and warehouses I can find. It seems to slow the enemy down, but not
stop them.
Any ideas ?

I've had Midwinter for about a fortnight now. It's a brilliant game, here's the
strategy I use...
When the game begins, only fight it out if Stark is near a garage (it's easier
to find the snow-witches if Stark's in a snow buggy as well). Keep going after
the snow-witches. Launch missiles before you see the vehicles - use the sound
to target the enemy.
I found that 'scorched earth' tactics don't work on their own. If you can
recruit half a dozen characters on the first day, assign half to blowing
installations, the others should split their time between recruiting characters
and getting after enemy fuel/ammo convoys. Rudel, Chabrun and Revel are best
for convoys - their sniping is excellent.
When you encounter an enemy unit, again, regardless of risk, keep plugging away
until you get a snow witch. You've a 5:1 chance of getting a colonel, in which
case you've just wasted a sixth of General Master's force - this makes ALL the
difference. Even killing a captain will give you sixty vehicles destroyed.
Having a character incapacitated for a few hours is well worth it.
Having said all that, the game is still in the balance...(8 days into the game,
4 heat mines left but 15 characters bearing down on Shining Hollow)
Hope this is of some use,
John.
