785.0. "Another EPSON printer to set up" by COMICS::DSMMGR () Tue Feb 27 1990 06:02

Its funny how these things happen. There I was thinking how nice it
would be to have a printer for my 520STFM and someone GAVE me a thermal
printer. I put in an earlier note about how to wire it up (thanks Jeff
8^) and now have it working fine.

When it rains it pours... someone has GIVEN me a letter quality printer
    but again I need information.

The printer is an EPSON LQ-1000 but I have no documentation at all. I
think I'll be able to wire it up okay, but might come back to that
later if I have problems. Let me tell you what I can about the printer.

It is big (132 cols) cream in colour and has the following LEDS/buttons
    on the right hand side.

    1) Power LED
    2) Ready LED
    3) Paper out LED
    4) ON/OFF Line button and LED
    5) FORMFEED/LETTER QUALITY Button and LED
    6) LINEFEED/DRAFT Button and LED

At the back there is a Centronics port, a DIN plug (what's this for
?????) and two banks of DIP switches (8 switches each).

Does anyone have a manual for me or perhaps a manual from a similar
EPSON printer which might have similar setup facilities ???

Any and all information is most gratefully received.

    Thanks a lot,

    Jonathan

785.2Try the Epson hot lineRODNEY::PETERSDon Peters, CTC2-1/F10, 287-3153Tue Feb 27 1990 08:585
Since it is made by Epson, you could call their hot line number and probably
order the manaul for it. I had some questions on my Epson LQ500 and had to
call the hot line about a year ago. They seemed fairly helpful. I don't have
the number handy now, but could look it up if you are interested.

    re .1

Mmmm, just lucky I guess. My girlfriend works for one of the major
banks in the city. They were having a clean out, she knew I only had
the little thermal printer and asked the computer manager if I could
have the printer. He said yes. As I said... just lucky.

    Yes please.

    Thanks,

785.4Phone & address of Epson AmericaRODNEY::PETERSDon Peters, CTC2-1/F10, 287-3153Wed Feb 28 1990 09:0616
I couldn't find the general Epson hot line number, but I did locate a
technical support number that was assigned to my ZIP code. You can try
calling that number, and they can redirect you to another if they wish. The
number is:

    213-539-9955

If you want to write them (or call information for their general phone
number), their address is

     Epson America, Inc.
     2780 Lomita Boulevard
     Torrance, CA 90505

I hope this is of some use to you Jonathan (and others)!
