782.0. "Citizen 120D - serail int prob ?????" by STRIKR::FROGGATT (The Gothic Goblin has spoken....) Fri Feb 23 1990 09:19

Hi all,
I've borrowed a Citizen 120D printer with a serial interface off one of my friends.
I can't get it working, the computers fine, a 520STM, and the printers fine because it works on his QL.
I think it is the DIP switch settings on the interface. I've tried all the settup options on the Control
panel. I've tried useing it with various comms packages to treat it as a hardcopy terminal but no joy.
Any help or thoughts on this problem will be gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance
	Colin.

782.2Possible avenues of investigationPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeffrey A. LomickaFri Feb 23 1990 13:589
Some device won't work unless you assert DTR - however - in this case I
suspect you have a connector pin-out problem. Many printers have female
connectors that are pinned as if they were male, so you attachem the to
a properly pinned device, such as the ST, you need a male-to-male gender
changer and a proper null-modem cable that swaps pins 2 and 3.

I assume, of course, that you did attach the printer to the ST's AUX
port, not to it's printer port.

Thanks,
It was a pin out problem. I borrowed a break out box and swapped
the pins and it worked fine.

Thanks again
