779.0. ""Typequick" or similar typing tutor?" by SNOC02::WILEYROBIN (The Bear) Wed Feb 21 1990 23:50

    What I am looking for is a version of "Typequick" that runs on a
    1040ST. IE, a touch-typing tutor that provides student feedback.
    Preferably PD or Shareware.

    Anything out there?

    Regards,
    Robin Wiley @SNO or @ADO

    	There is one available for the ST but I can't recall its name at
    the moment! It's available on a number of platforms and is a
    reasonably good program, (with a price to match), although I'm sure I've
    seen it at discounted prices over the last year or so.
779.3I think I have this program!AIDEV::MISKINISMon Jan 04 1993 14:3613
Hi,

	I believe I have this program, as it came with my used ST...

	I think I also have something like space invaders, that
	shows a letter/etc. dropping from the screen, and if you
	don't hit thhe proper key in time, it reaches the bottom
	of the screen. The quicker you hit the key, the more points
	you score...

	I never use these, and offers will be accepted!

    John,

    Can you let me know more about the program? Either here or by mail
    to RUTILE::BISHOP or LEWIS BISHOP @FYO. I'm not really interested
    in the Space Invaders one as i think this may be a bit easy.

    Thanks,

    					Lewis.
779.5I'll find it...AIDEV::MISKINISTue Jan 05 1993 11:114

    You may all be thinking of the "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" program.
    It's quite good, and available on lots of different platforms. The
    last time I looked (a few years ago, I'm afraid) it was distributed by
    a company called The Software Toolworks.

    	That was the one I was thinking of, although the name "Mavis
    Beacon's Typing Tutor" seems more along what I remember...

Thanks for the input... i'll check out exactly what my friends requirements are
and see what's available.

779.92 on 1 disk...AIDEV::MISKINISFri Jan 15 1993 12:2013
Hi,

	I found the "Typing Tutor" disk...

	It's by Academy Software, (c) 1985. It comes with the
	"Word Invaders" game on the same disk...

	I fired up the tutor, and it has several levels of drills,
	the first starting with rows of "fff jjj fff jjj", etc. It
	shows whay you are typing under what you are supposed to type,
	and beeps/marks the incorrect responses...
