| NEOCHROME is reasonably good, some of the ST mags have shown some
pretty impressive picture created under this.

Is it available on the net?

754.3 | Yes but... | UKCSSE::RDAVIES | Live long and prosper | Mon Mar 12 1990 04:13 | 5 |
| Yes it is PD, the version I have(0.6) is a bit limited as you can't
load in files to modify. So it's a one time create and save. Anyone got
a better version? (0.9 / 1.0)?.

While the initial release(s) was public domain, I don't think the final
version (1.0?) was public domain - it was sold as a commercial product, by
Atari, I believe. It seemed to have some nice features, but never became
really popular. That's probably because the full featured version came out
relatively late, behind Degas, and just didn't have enough advantage to make
people want to switch.

754.5 | Try NeoChrome V0.9 | OLDTMR::WALLACE | | Mon Mar 12 1990 11:08 | 13 |
| Neochrome V0.9 is the last PD version of Neochrome and it does allow loading
and saving files. If you are interested I can upload it to the VAX. Also the
Degas program you have does all of the things you mentioned. (If you have any
problems using it just drop me a line)
If you are interested in some realy simple stuff for your kids I have some
good PD stuff like a program resembling the "Etch-a-Sketch Animator" and some
others that my kids like a lot.
I've never used MACpaint or MS-Windows Paint so I don't know what compares to
them in the ST world.

| Re .5:
Thanks for your comments, Ray.
DEGAS is working very well and is a real hit with my son! I originally
placed this topic when I was still looking, and I was interested to get
a comparison between NEOCHROME and DEGAS.
For future reference, I feel that DEGAS compares favorably with
MACpaint and MS-Windows Paint. But then, I've never used them for
anything dramatic, so I have little to go on.
Re the 'simple stuff' for kids you mentioned - I could be interested.
Can you post some descriptions, and give me some network locations?
- Robin.
