750.0. "centronics to serial" by SUOSW4::SURAUF () Thu Jan 25 1990 09:11

    Hi there,
    does anyone know about a pice of hardware, which converts the
    Centronics-Printer Port to an RS232C Serial Port?
    The reason is, that i have an serial printer only, but the buildin
    serial interface of the Atari is already in use.
    regards
    Rolf

There does exist some "printer buffer" units that include the ability to
accept parallel and write serial. They tend to be the more expensive
ones, as in, around $100. (U.S.).

You could build one out of an 8051 and a few wires.
750.2Computer Shopper will have themVISUAL::WEAVERDave, Image Systems GroupThu Jan 25 1990 20:095
    Look in Computer Shopper magazine, you will find numerous makers.
    If you can afford it, get one with a printer buffer that can be
    expanded by plugging in your own DRAMS.

750.3CENTRONICS-->>RS232--->CENTRONICS CONVERTER.MUCTEC::HIERLThe beautiful MUCTEC ClusterFri Jan 26 1990 07:415
Rolf,
there was a converter project in the Magazin ELEKTOR. This converter can be
used for Centronics ======>> RS232 and RS232 =======>>Centronics conversion.
I have used it to connect a LA50 to the Centronics port.

    Hi!

    A while ago there was another project in the c't magazine (about two
    years ago). To locate it, open any c't, find the
    "Inserentenverzeichnis", find the ad of "Emedia, Hannover" and look up
    the order number for the PCB. The order number has the format yymmppp
    (yy=year, mm=month, ppp=page).

    Abstract: A solder-yourself project, PCB can be bought at above
    address, capable to convert in both directions (but only one at a
    time), all parts easy to get (at least here, the electronics shop is
    only 500m away).

    Anyone interested may send me a mail.

    Well the frame frequency is 70 Hz which counts out most normal
    monitors. Not sure if the line freq though. 15625 Hz maybe.

    The horizontal freq is something like 35.7 KHz. Look for my MultiSync
    article somewhere in this conference, I list frequencies for all
    resolutions.

    	Thank's for the information

    	Sorry, I put this in the wrong place. I use 'Repl'
    	instead of 'Write'.
