    I'm pretty sure that the keypad will only work if you turn on Mac-Plus
    (as opposed to Mac SE) emulation. There is a keystroke sequence to do
    this (I think it's keypad +; check your docs).

I did not mention it: I already tried this. Those various little programs 
that show you your systemconfiguration tell me that it is a Mac+ but with
unknown keyboard. Going into the keycaps desk accessory I see the full
keyboard, but when I press any key on the keypad the corresponding key on
the main keyboard shows up. With one exception: the backslash gives a backslash
but does not higlight any key, neither on the main kbd nor on the keypad.

|  |     As of Spectre 2.3, Spectre still maps the keypad as "normal" keys
    instead of a real keypad.  It also doesn't support keypresses like
    SHIFT {arrow key}.  Hopefully, all these "problems" will be eliminated
    in the next release.
