In today's (13 Jan) copy of New Computer Express, there was an article
about Autoroute. It said, in effect, that NextBase (its author) were no
longer intending to support the ST, mainly owing to piracy.
I've spoken to NextBase's marketing department, and they denied at
least part of the above. While they may not be releasing an Autoroute
Plus for the ST, they didn't rule out the possibility altogether ...
especially as the PC code could quite easily be ported over. However,
piracy on the ST has without doubt damaged sales.
They will however be producing annual upgrades (reduced to registered
users), the next coming along probably in April. While the present one
includes England, Wales and Scotland, it doesn't include Northern
Ireland. This is because Ordinance Survey who handles the data do not
supply it ... at least yet.
The current price of Autoroute for the ST is 70 pounds. Nextbase are on
(0784) 460077. I bought the program a few weeks ago - at the Christmas
offer price - and am most impressed. Very fast displays, and the
information has been consistently accurate. It's also very fun to use.
It hasn't been able to find a way past the morning traffic jams around
Reading though ...
