713.0. "EMPIRE - The game -" by WELSWS::WICKHAM () Wed Dec 20 1989 12:09

The game EMPIRE is available for the ST.
	It is produced by :

	Interstel Corporation
	PO Box 57825,
	Webster, TX 77598,
	TEL: 713 486 4163

In the United kingdom it is sold by Electronic Arts and
	all discerning software shops.

The game has some features not available on the version
available on VAXen. Cruisers and Battleships can attack
armies. Armies can hide in cities. Some ships do greater
amounts of damage. There is a world editor.

The game is very playable. Both the the mouse and the
keypad can be used to move pieces. The computer's
strategy is OK - nothing brilliant. There is a play
by mail option. The machine also allows two computer
	players.

I enjoy playing it very much, but I always liked the game.

    Sound ?
    Overall appeal ?

    Thanks in advance.

713.2It is your basic strategy wargamePLATA::BITTROLFFWed Jan 03 1990 13:4324
    Greetings,

I also have this game and have had a lot of fun with it.

It is a strategy game, with decent (not spectacular) graphics and
    limited sound.

It is your basic wargame, in which you produce different kinds of
units (armies, fighters, and several types of ships) in cities that
you capture as you go along. The action takes place on a large ocean
interspersed with variously sized islands. Although you know the
size of the world, you don't know where anything is located until
you explore it. You decide what to build and when, and where to
send it. The computer or a human opponent does the same.

The interface is well done, and the game play is easy to pick up.
The computer opponent is not particularly skilled, but there are
several options you can choose that give it advantages or
disadvanteges, such as how powerful each piece is or how long it
    takes to build something.

On the whole, I give it an 8 out of 10.

Does anyone have or know where I can get EMPIRE for the ST. I have been
told that it is no longer made. Anyone got a copy that they are fed up with?
