688.0. "where to buy Atari ST in So. NH?" by KOBAL::SCAER () Wed Nov 29 1989 20:09

Can anyone recommend a place in the Nashua-Manchester area to buy a
	basic Atari ST setup?

	Re: .1

Thanks for the reply. I called White Mountain Computer and they
said that a 1040 Atari ST with a monochrome monitor would cost
$999. Isn't that kind of expensive? If so, what would a
reasonable price be and where could I find it? thanks.
688.3oh, you want a good price! :-) LEVERS::LANDRYThu Nov 30 1989 22:0628
If you know what you want, maybe you should go mail order . . .

Here's some prices from 1sr Stop Computer Systems - I happen
to have their catalog right here. I don't know if you could
do better elsewhere - their prices on software seem to be
	competative.

	1040ST $699
	 520ST 549
	SM124 mono 159
	SC1224 color 349

I think they also sell a second drive kit for about 150 but
I don't see it listed here.

I haven't ordered anything from them (yet) so don't take this
	as an endorsement.

Way back in '85 I got my ST from J&R Music in NY city. They still
sell the Atari line mail order at the lowest prices the I've seen. I'll
post the address next week if someone doesn't beat me to it. Good
    software prices too!
Note, don't expect good repair/other service from your local Atari
dealer if you buy mail-order. (S)he's naturally going to put you second
to his/her loyal customers in being helpful when you are in need. If
you are self-reliant and have a repair shop lined up, go for
mail-order, but if you expect good dealer service, it may be wise to
pay a few extra $$ now and reap the rewards tomorrow. - Chris
